Hi, I am one of experienced scalper on Uk Horce racing.

From 6 months scalping is very very hard.... I think that it depends 1) Betfair manipulation with very strong BOT 2) the number of human traders is low...

What do you think?

Markets are certainly evolving and will always continue to do so. More recent years has seen a 'Rise of the Machines' (bots) but there will always be a place and need for manual traders especially pre-race horse markets.
Those trading manually will need to adjust there approach/s from time to time just the same as those using bots will need to keep making changes from time to time.

More than one way to skin a cat....

If scalping is no longer viable that'd imply markets are moving in one direction or you're entering the wrong horses/wrong time. So you can either put more effort into your choices or start looking to ride any moves for more than a tick.

Like Dallas says markets, and people, seem to be moving on so you just need to adapt, even if that means switching to different markets that'll be more suited to your style of trading.

Sadly the days of easy money on Betfair have long gone. I'd imagine a lot of us are kicking ourselves for not cashing in more during the glory days.

But there's still money in them there hills, last few weeks have been sparse for me but this financial year has been one of the best for a few years.

From what I hear people seem to struggle more with scalping now. But it's never been the only thing I've done so I'd guess I was less vulnerable to a shift in the market at that end.

The thing I've noticed more recently is that the markets are often WAY overbought or oversold so I'll often trade that now. When I started that hardly ever happened.

Scalping has always been dicey in slow moving markets, and that's been the problem in recent years - the fill rates have plummeted due to manual traders moving away, and scalpers have been badly exposed by bots and manipulation

I won't post the address of the site concerned, but I saw they were promoting a "How to scalp on Betfair" type course - in exchange, no doubt, for a generous affiliate commission.

It was frightening how many people were convinced they'd found the holy grail and vast riches were just around the corner.

And I really do mean frightening, because a number of people were using practice mode and assuming that it will be the same in real mode.

Also, no one seemed to be mentioning the fact that a Monday afternoon low grade affair trades differently from a race that is on Channel 4 on a Saturday.

I posted a comment highlighting the above but for some reason it never got published

Wow... convoysur you need to calm down that was unnecessary and I don't see how you came to that from the guys posts. If you haven't got anything nice to say comes to mind. In the words of John McCririck "GROW UP, BEHAVE YOURSELF, WHAT A TOE RAG YOU ARE!"
