2016 is nearly over so it is time for some gambling resolutions. The picture of Winks (not only the best in Australia but also the world) winning with so much ease is a sight all gamblers to adore. Australian sports team winning something (rare) and Steve Smith not being chosen in the cricket team of the year also linger. The unexpected winning bets are remembered but we should concentrate on our failed bets. What did we do wrong? Although I am a 2016 winner, I am a layer usually and I would say a successful layer, however as far as placing place bets I am hopeless. If I bet an odds-on fav for a place, it will not give me a return. Also, if I dutch 3 horses in a race to result is usually a failure. So, my New year resolution is only lay and never bet for a place or dutch. Although I have won this year enough for a UK holiday, if I had made and kept this year’s resolution in 2016 I would be turning left as I enter the plane rather than right. May I suggest we all look at our records, consider our mistakes, make a resolution and we may all be flying up the front end of the plane. Happy New Year from Australia

G'day cobber.

Strewth you make some good points! I'm quite sure there are many short-priced horses to place that are often 5th, 6th or worse, sadly I've been on some of them, at big stakes!

I also seek constantly to refine my strategies; other than full auto, I struggle with the horsies and enjoy far more consistent success with the doggies manually trading at least.

I just want to reiterate what PeterLe and Dallas said to me last year, about the importance of actually logging all changes to strategy and keeping PnL updated, to see what's really working long term.

I suspect many posters here, plus many who simply lurk and don't post, will have the same resolution for 2017 - Don't blow my Betfair bank
