I got caught out as it stalled for a long time and broke it's short term traded range. Thought it was going to drift and I had the safety of the crossover so I was happy to lay then BOOOOOOOOM. dropped about 15 ticks and went on....and on....and on....

I was unsure of the drift but they were talking the horse down a lot on the pictures so that supported my decision. Lesson learned, don't listen to the muppets on the TV haha.

That was the first market of the day I traded so had no idea such heavy backing was going on. The rest of the day was a roaring success with no more losses. Easiest and most profitable days trading for me.

How often does that sort of backing happen out of interest?

Not caught out on this particular horse mind you. It was one of the earlier ones when I first started trading in the afternoon.

Can someone please explain situation in 2 red circles on the image ?

It happens often, mostly right on 5 min. before the race, just after Peters voice.
Is this Betfair correcting prices ?

Does it happen exactly 5 mins before a race is due to start, in which case SHRs idea is very likely. If its around the 5 mins time slot, then when another race has just finished (this is often around 5 mins before the start of the next one) then you will see large quantities of money starting to come into the market.
