Being the lazy git that I am, rather than go thro the laborious process of copying every rule from one file to another, I'd like to know if there's a SAFE way to copy/merge tow rules files.
What I've tried so far by way of example:
1. open both files in notepad++
2. examine the number of rules in each
3. Change the value on line #4 to 7(i.e. if merging a 3 rule set with a 4 rule set, change the base file's value to match the combined total of 7)
4. copy paste the rules sections from the merge file and renumber the placeholders from their internal values (i.e. 0001, 0002 etc, to sequntially match their new place in the file, i.e. 0004 to 0007
5. Save the new file with an appropriate name
Now, having done all of this, and meticulously examining the file line spacings etc, I still get an error when importing the file and trying to open it in guardian.
Has anyone got any tips on how to safely do this?? (Peter.. etc, etc??).
Cheers all

Copy between automation files

If you send me all your profitable automation files I'd be happy to provide a free copy/merge service. You're welcome!

as a follow on from this question (of mine) a few weeks back, I've since created a simple little .net app that opens an existing rules file and allows you to ping sections of the rule into a newly pending ruleset. this means that you can combine as many sections from existing rule files into one new rule file at will.shakespeare wrote:If you send me all your profitable automation files I'd be happy to provide a free copy/merge service. if anyone would like this little utility, just pm me and i'll arrange a way to send it to you. i've actually been using it myself for a few weeks and have, as a result, whipped up a little library of *templates* (i.e. simple signals, back bet rules etc) that really help me pull together an idea really quickly without copy/paste errors.

anyway, a small little gift to the community in return for all the valuable help that's been given to me on an ongoing basis - there if interested.

This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for, many thanks ....but.... When I run it and click on any of the 'Open' buttons, it just hangs and I have to kill it with task manager.
Any ideas? What info can I give you to help?
(I'm on Win7Pro, running it from the desktop)

One question - what are Wip files?
Hi Shaun - I'm afraid I haven't experienced this issue. I wonder if you could pop a screenshot on here (even tho i'm certain all it shows is a blank dialog box).ShaunWhite wrote:This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for, many thanks ....but.... Will try my best to get to the bottom of it tho...
Geordie, glad it works for you. WIP files are simply Work In Progress rules. Was just my little way of building up rules *off piste* without tampering with live in prod rules. you can safely ignore this option if not required.Geordie wrote:Awesome, very, very useful, works great, many thanks, jimibtjimibt wrote:anyway, a small little gift to the community in return for all the valuable help that's been given to me on an ongoing basis - there if interested.

All sorted jimibtjimibt wrote: Hi Shaun - I'm afraid I haven't experienced this issue. I wonder if you could pop a screenshot on here (even tho i'm certain all it shows is a blank dialog box).

Thanks for the offer to help investigate.. all I need to do is get organised now with my std header / footer blah blah blah. I bet you quite enjoyed making it, you've made me a bit nostalgic for the days when I used to program stuff. I used to love it but that was a looooong time ago now. VBA keeps that part of me satisfied, but it's not the same.
Thanks again jimi, I owe you a pint.
Great idea, I like that, thanks againjimibt wrote:Geordie, glad it works for you. WIP files are simply Work In Progress rules. Was just my little way of building up rules *off piste* without tampering with live in prod rules. you can safely ignore this option if not required.

glad both sorted now. not that there's much more can be done with this little app, but if there are any suggestions or issues, just let me know. oh and btw, if ever you hit a real problem and need to get the previous version of the rule, just navigate to:
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Roaming\Bet Angel\Bet Angel Professional\Automation\bakup
in here, you'll find every change that you've made, with a horrid datestamp naming convention (e.g Back all 15 v2_22-Oct-2016 12.35.17.baf
this should get you out of the wood, should the app do anything silly.
