Am I getting old or is this "instrument" the bane of this world cup? Whenever I watch a match this sounds like a swarm of angry bees. Forget signing or atmosphere this damn thing has killed them. It's ruining my enjoyment of the tournament to be honest, I have started to turn the sound off, it's so annoying.

Got to disagree completely with that. It is a global event not a local event. Plus in England it is the culture to get drunk and fight on a Saturday night after a little hooliganism at the game. I'm fairly sure FIFA will not brush that aside if we get to host in 2018 and say 'let them do it - it's their culture'

I am far from a fan of the horns but it is easy enough to ignore them. I fully agree it is part of their culture and should be fully allowed. Just because we don't like them doesn't mean they should be banned. It is their equivalent of singing and chanting.

I have to say that is a daft comment. I would hardly say it is our culture to go get pissed up and fight etc. It may many years ago have been the culture of a considerable number of idiots but these days it is now only the culture of the brain dead few. Our culture is to sing and chant not fight! What would we say if FIFA came in and wanted to ban singing and chanting...we wouldn't want it banned and quite rightly they haven't banned the horns.

It is their culture and it is hosted by them and as such the world accepts their culture and they showcase it to us.

And that is a naive and ignorant thing to say. But having read your posts I wouldn't expect you to have your finger on the pulse of what the majority think.

I might have chosen an extreme example but that was just it - an example. All friends together singing and chanting is what you might get in a Disney film of the game with Bambi bouncing in the distance but from what I see on a Saturday afternoon it appears we live in different worlds.

I'm not in a minority here. Millions of people are finding these things extremely annoying and ruining the world cup for them.

OK, I didn't realise I would be the only one who finds them annoying. Having read the news I got the impression the global majority was in agreement and against these things. I didn't expect to be called daft or be attacked about it really.

I'll be down to Sainsburys later to get one in readiness for the new season and introduce the premiership to the glorious noise.

have to say I hate it!

I am not a football fan anyway but the couple of times I have tried to sit down and watch bits of a game because they are in HD I last about 10 minutes max and just turn over as its too annoying. I'm sure if you are a football fan you can overlook them and just enjoy the game but for someone who is a casual watcher it just puts me off! I realise I am probably in the minority though. If it was the world cup rugby and they did it then I'd happily just enjoy the rugby and ignore the buzzing but I just can;t get into the football with the constant buzzing on as a casual watcher
