hello traders,

I read with interest the posts from earlier this year about BA users thoughts, opinions and experiences of market and price manipulation.

all the prices are driven by money and technology, depending upon the location of the trading exchange and the rules governing the exchange, what maybe permissible on one exchange, maybe prohibited on another exchange,

for example so called spoofing ( putting bids and offers or lays and backs, multiple times then cancelling the orders then to repeat the process ) on the US stock exchange from 2010 is a offence, but is permissible on the exchange betfair UK

as always the power of money is still king, but the queen is most certainly technology, today they walk hand in hand, you cannot have any success unless you have those two in place

if you have your king and queen you have a chance of some success, success comes from the ability to move prices, even for a few seconds, is this price manipulation or investment or trading !!

most of the size on the ladder is spoof, a few pounds can make it disappear for a few seconds or even minutes enough time to make a return on capital ( exact same on the stock exchange ladder - commonly known as market depth )

a good company with solid profits, long term will rise, but short term be buffeted by the speculators, likewise a strong favourite will nearly always start at a short price but before the start of the race maybe showing 3,5-3,6 on the ladder !!

as par for the course in my education, I have used every betfair app and in my opinion they all have limited capabilities with regard to assisting the trader in making profit, there is two exceptions, one is betangel, I think more could be added to BA, but at least it offers the potential to capture the opportunities that exist at exchange betfair,

my investment preference is having the ability to moves prices and taking and creating liquidity, all based upon my opinion that a favourite,s price is too long or short etcetera,

that is what I like about betfair it gives this opportunity, and the GBP entry point is much lower than PLC UK

I do not advocate selling the proverbial family silver, but business is business and should be taken as such if you want to succeed.

I've always been really surprised that Betfair tolerate price manipulation as it's been shown in other markets to never be very beneficial to the overall health of the market.

for experimental purposes I opened four other betfair add on platforms, including betangel,

all four platforms via the ladder show different WOM, I have concluded that the WOM is different on each betfair app because each app actually shows the WOM of the users of each platform

Yes thia was made illegal largely apart of the Dodd Frank regulations. It's a US thing and doesn't apply in UK.

I also think it's important to distinguish stock markets with sports books. We are not traders, we are gambling.

I don't agree with your conclusion. The "users" are market specific not app specific therefore unmatched volumes should be the same. If there are differences between the apps and the market is very slow then I would conclude WOM is being calculated/interpretated differently by the different apps.

Bet Angel cant see the bets placed by its users, thats between you and Betfair only. On Bet Angel you can specify how you want to weight the WOM caluculation made,
https://www.betangel.com/user-guide/dis ... 3D&mw=MzIw

I dont know if other software gives you this flexability or if they use a fixed calculation but as workpeter says each could use slightly different calculations therefore you ll see a different figure displayed in each.
