Hi. Great information regarding scalping introduction. I have been following and have been putting into practice all the hints and tips. Ive been starting with £2 stakes.

I have been doing the make market scalping and started off well with small profit. I have been looking at the micro chart to see it levelling out and then entering the trade when the back and lay have similar amounts of money either side.

I have also started doing the trade using the directional scalping technique but just wanted to know what do i trade first the back or lay side? Is there something I need to check before entering? I have also been checking that the weight of money is at a similar level but a few of the times once I entered the trade the odds went in the other direction that I estimated.

What i wanted to know is how do you clarify a volatile market? Is is if there is only one clear favourite? What time is the best time to enter a scalping trade? 10 mins to go? Should I also be looking at how much money as been totally matched before I enter the trade?

Look forward to your reply. Thanks

The risk meter on the market overview screen (speedo icon) is a great visual indiator of the marker volatility

For the best time to scalp It can differ market to market, almost everytime it will be within the last 10 mins only often 5mins or less. Yes ensuring there has been a decent amount matched over six figures is a general starting point but if your stakes are not to big then lower than this would be OK, the more important is making sure there is money going through the market (turnover) before starting.

If you go into your settings > edit settings > display and tick the 'calculate MA box (intervals can be left around 20) then above your ladders you'll see the average matched each second once this is stable in the £hundreds then its usually good to go - this will go hand in hand with the previous race finishing.

When directional scalping you would be entering a trade in the directon its going, so if its steaming it would be backing first, if drfiting it would be laying first

Thanks for the tips Dallas. Much appreciated. Starting to get the hang of this a bit now. Well I think Iam :D

Is it always good practice to wait for your scalp to get matched before trying to match another scalp? i.e. If I place a back trade at 3.55 and my lay does not get matched at 3.5 because the horse has drifted. I then place another back trade further up the ladder at say 4.1 and try and get a match at 4 while still waiting for the 3.5 to get matched. Is this good practice or dangerous?

Obviously Iam only staking £2 trades at the moment but I presume its dangerous practice when Iam staking £50 trades?

Thanks

There is several ways of scalping and each person will have there preference and style and will adapt to individual markets, for the time being though i would just concentrate on managing one at a time and only starting a new on when the previous one is closed either by having the offset matched or scratching/closing for a small loss just as in the scalping thread linked to earlier in this one.

Bad day for me today. Tried the risk predictor and used the average increase etc been looking at the graphs etc and managed to have a £1 loss overall from £2 stakes.

Is there something I am missing doing this scalping? Any help and advice would be much appreciated please.

Thank you

From what I have seen posted on this and other sports trading forums, scalping is more difficult now that it used to be. Some people say the only way it can now be profitable is to do it with some directional bias.

I remember from trading financial markets many years ago, the scalpers were among the best and most experienced traders, I would not be surprised if its the same when it comes to sports trading.

I don't know how long you have been scalping, but I think you would need to either be extremely gifted or extremely lucky (or both) if you became a profitable scalper within a few weeks of trying.

Thanks Bluesky. So what practice would you recommend to start trading pre race in the horse racing market? Feel like ive hit a brick wall at the mo

Scalping.....

The 'Make Market' functionality can still be used and profitable, even today.

I built something pretty sophisticated using other software.

Open Trading criteria
- Last 10 minutes of a Market pre-off.
- At least 100K matched volume.
- The WOM of Inner Back and Lay amounts should be tween 40 and 60.
- The current Back and Lay amounts on offer should be >= 200.
- Back price > 3 and Lay price < 9.
- Price difference of last 30 seconds is 0.
- Difference between Back and Lay price is 1 tick.

Scratching (One or More Trade Unmatched)
or If either the current Back or Lay amount < 100.
or Either the current back or lay price moves against my matched back or lay price.
or WOM of Inner Back and Lay amounts outside of 33 and 66.

When you actually break it down then its not too difficult but you need to take into account time delays between all the above happening otherwise you can end up with multiple scratch trades.

The trick is to get everything above in the correct trigger order of firing etc.

Cheers,

Fully automated. But not with BA.

However, you could probably do it using Excel integration with BA etc.
