OK so I watched the video One click screen - Placing your first trade and tested it.
1) I randomly chose a race
2) I randomly chose a horse
3) I clicked the Make Market button and confirmed
4) My bet and lay were both matched
5) I pressed the Green button and spread my profit

I made a whopping 28p on my £5. RESULT!!

I'm trying to keep this simple as there is such a wealth of stuff to read, however before I just randomly use Make Market and Green up again I wonder if there is any more "scientific" way of spotting a good potential market or particularly less risky market as I may well have been just lucky.

H'cap races are the best for scalping, you want good competitive races where there prices are quiet steady, there is also a few other tips in this thread as well as what to look for in Bet Angel which should help

Thanks Dallas, wondered what scalping was and it turns out that is what I am doing. I'll have a look at the link you posted.

In terms of a given race is there a best time to scalp?

Usually within the last 5 mins and when the previous race has finished, in your main settings on the display tab if you tick the 'volume moving average' box then back on your trading screens just above the grid you will see 'Average increase' £XXX

When that starts to consistantly show £200+ its means theres a good amount of liquidity (money) been matched in the market so from now on its scalpable.

Excellent, thanks again I've just set that up and can see the amount changing. Can I continue in-play or is that best avoided?

No the 'make market' button should only be used on pre-race markets where a price is flat and stready. In-play the odds move about very quickly so it requires a different technique.

Thanks again Dallas, so far so good. I'm making 10 to 15p a time.
I have a question when it doesn't work.
What should I do if before the race starts
a) the back bet isn't taken? or
b) if the lay bet isn't taken?

You should cancel all unmatched bets and green the selection before it goes in-play.
That will balance any partial fills on either side. Eg If your back hadn't been touched and your lay was 25% taken, or any variation on that.

This can be automated.

Thanks ShaunWhite, so far it hasn't been an issue but it's been close a couple of times

Back again with more questions:
a) Is it best to have more or less runners? I've just observed a race with 6 runners 4 of them had very similar odds and 2 had long odds which leads to

b) Is it best to have a broad range of odds?

Thanks in advance

All depends on the type of trading your doing and an individuals personal preference.

Personnally i much prefere the uncompetetive races with 7+ runners but others may like competative races, or races with under 5 runners. Over time you'll begin to find you natually begin to gravitate or favour certain ones more than others - so no right or wrongs just whatever suits

Thanks Dallas, I'm just doing some simple, small risk scalps and wondered if there was a general rule but if not I'll do as you suggest and get a feel for what I'm comfortable with.

The bottom post in this thread has a few pointers for scalping
