I went to school with Wayne Shaw - he was a year below me at Testwood in Totton

It's a novelty bet ffs. This is about the level of the FA's ability to tackle corruption.

I wouldn't want to see him punished under sporting rules for what was clearly a very personal and non sporting bookie offering.

Sutton have now asked him to resign, and he has.

I feel gutted for him, because this was his moment in the sun!!

I think he has been very naive - he was an unused sub when it happened, so it wasn't ever going to effect the match, but that could be said about many markets when a match result was clearly already decided - perhaps the bookies should be banned from offering stupid novelty bets

However, if I was a Sutton player, Wayne may have annoyed me. He was on Breakfast Tv this morning, yet didn't play. For those on the pitch that put in some heroic performances, they possibly feel aggrieved that the 23stone reserve goalie was getting all the attention

The only winners in this are the Sun Bets marketing department...look at all these free column inches.

That said, where were the Sutton management...handling the perils of marketing/media/press in high level games is player education 101. As is player welfare. They should have spotted the trap and warned him.

I hope SunBets compensate him well for their stunt.
