3% of the world’s population control 90% of the world’s resources. So why would you not follow them, instead of following the crowd?
They are passionate and focussed, but so are many of the crowd. So, what is the key difference? Well, in a word it is paradigm – their (self) beliefs, values and specific and absolute positive focus on their burning desire – they know what they want and they know how to get it.
Your paradigm is ‘located’ in your subconscious; some say, including the ancient Greeks, that it’s in your heart. For me, it’s kind of the same – it is all about passion, love, feelings, emotions; all the attributes you associate with the heart. Your conscious mind is responsible for only 3-4% of you thought process, the balance comes from your subconscious. It is vital therefore that you get your paradigm right in order to maximise your success rate and live your dreams (and perhaps become one of the 3%; well, why not?).
Your current paradigm is a product of many years of influence from your parents, friends, family, teachers and the media – some good and probably quite a lot of negatives (certainly if you watch or listen to news broadcasts).
(I stole the above from the net)
I have been working extremely hard for months now on shifting my paradigm and I would like to share what I have been doing because I believe it could benefit you.
I am not claiminng a holy grail but for me in my trading terms it has been life changing.
My bad habbits:
I had a few bad habits in trading that included. Accepting a loss, staying focused and blowing banks from pure right gambling.
On the 01 Dec 2016. I made an excellent trade on the greyhound markets where I was up a little, I guess it was greed but somehow I allowed that trade turn into a small loss. I was sat there just staring at the screen thinking It will come back it will come back. The loss got bgger and bigger until it got to about £8/9.
I cannot specifically remember if I let it ride but I dont think I did. £8 loss on the Greyhounds is a massive loss, well for me at the time and still is a big loss on such weak markets.
I just went into F**** it mode and managed to blow a £400 bank in about 30 mins. I was throwing money into the market, trying to move prices, just being a complete idiot.
For me that was the last straw on the cammels back. Previous summer I was prfitable most days except on a bad day I would blow the lot. think I blew about 4/5 banks within a year and I lost one due to no UPS back up.
My confidence was shot, I started a diary on the forum to help me and for about two weeks I was kind of going round in circles, self doubting and lacking confidence..
Since discovering about Paradigms I have worked so hard on doing so,
So what did I do?
I have a diary where everymorning and every evening I write down what I am un happy with:
For example:
I am unhappy that I lack the self control to manage my betfair account. I am dissapointed that I have thrown money down the toilet. etc... you get the point.
I then follow on to write down what I want to change.
I want to be sucessfull at trading. I want to stop blowing backs. I want to accept taking aloss.
I than twist everything thats written and write as is if the following is true.
I am so happy and gratefull that I am a sucessful betfair tader. I am so happy and gratefull that I can accept a loss. etc.
I do this twice a day every day but i read out as I am writting it and put meaning into my words.
I have a little card about 4inches by 6inches that reads the exact following;
READ WITH EMOTION:
I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL TO KNOW THAT LOSSES ARE PART OF THE GAME, TAKING A LOSS DOES NOT MEAN I AM LOSER. I AM SO HAPPY TO ACCEPT LOSSES.
I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL THAT I NEVER PLACE A TRADE WITHOUT UNDERSTANDING THE MARKET.
I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL I ALWAYS CLOSE MY POSITION IF THE PRICE BREAKS THROUGH MY MENTAL STOP.
I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL TO KNOW THAT THE OBJECTIVE OF TRADING IS TO NOT LOSE MOEY AND TO NOT GET INTO SILLY POSITIONS. I AM SO HAPPY I NEVER GET INTO SILLY POSITIONS.
I AM SO HAPPY AND GRATEFUL I AM A SUCCESSFUL BETFAIR TRADER.
I read this card whenever possible, If I go out it comes in the car with me. Its on my desk and if I have 10 mins between a race, i read it to myself.
Additionaly I have written this card as voice to text and downloaded them to a sound file.
I have automation set up that plays these during trading times. So they will go off 5mins to post etc.
( I stopped doing this about a month a go. Can get very annoying)
The reason for this post is because, its Cheltenham next week and I have not blown a bank, or failed to accept a loss since.
Ive still had bad trades and bad days but nothing that hasnt stopped me being in the game.
I must admit, I may have a habit that I read these cards now and not sure when I can stop reading them but it has changed me.
Most of you will think its sily or will fail to follow it through if you tried as its really not been easy sticking to this.
If your looking for change give it a try. Could be life changing,
SHR

Whether this works or not will depend on how susceptible you are to CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy). I've tried CBT and hypnosis for other things in the past and they had absolutely no effect on me whatsoever, zero. I'm too self aware. For people who can relinquish control to their new reprogrammed 'inner-self'.... it works like a charm, so i'm not going to say it's not worth trying.
What works for me is different, rather than trying to reprogram my subconscious, I have a more zen relationship with my consciousness, quite simply:
Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. (alleged, Viktor Frankl)
If you live in that 'space' you change your relationship with money, and with people and life is just generally a lot calmer. CBT is more focused on little tweaks. It's horses for courses though, as usual.
(I 'blame' my mindset on a friend who did Pharmacology at Manchester uni in the 70s
, That "space between stimulus and response"' was a popular venue for a night out back then)

I'm sure for some the above works, more so in certain situations. But I sometimes think we have to put what we are doing or trying to do into some sort of perspective I'm sure we all have our little routines whether we realise it or not before or during a trading session .
I'm guessing all of us do our research, then sit at our computers and trade for varying hours,I'm sure some of us analyse our days work, and look fornew strategies and angles etc ...Yes for some its " their job" others work and fit it it , hoping one day for it to be their main source if income .
Whether it's a small or large part of our lives we shouldn't over dramatise it , and we should try to enjoy it and use it to do the things in life we want .
I just trade the horseracing, am passionate about it , enjoy the reasearch etc , and I enjoy every minute of what I do. And to me that's the key . Enjoyment , doing something that you like and have a passion for.I don't proclaim my profits from the rooftops, put pressure on myself my saying I'm going to make my fortune, or bemoan my losses as tho it's the end of the world .
I think we all over complicate what we do to a certain extent and make things difficult for ourselves.I also think a lot of the posts on here however well meant just confuse and make new posters think it's far more difficult then it is.
Most of us will never make a comfortable living from it, but small steady profits are achievable for lots of us .
I think those that come from a punting/ gambling background with find it very difficult and in most case impossible to accept the "small profits "( in a lot of instances initially pennies ), and will lapse back into punting mode fairly quickly .
Most probably risk too much to soon and try and make too much too soon
But when you have to go through the above process on a daily basis , and make it almost "all consuming " then I can't see it being worth it or it ever working for you ., and certainly can't be enjoyable .
It's not being negative or deriding the method , but I've seen people fixated and consumed by " something " and it's not a good place to be .. Yes have a passion and more than anything enjoy what you do.
In the great scheme of things what we do isn't worth getting fixated with , and certainly not worth making it affect your happiness .And quite clearly with some posters it has .
I genuinely hope it works and that when SHR says ...
"I will make 75k this year from trading and I really cannot wait to show you" ( see today's greyhounds thread) .. I hope he succeeds and can dispense with cards.
Enjoy your trading today !!
