I find Summer trading much easier and more profitable... for the simple reason there are larger fields on average... while others may find the opposite, personally I find it very difficult trading small runner fields which are so prevalent during winter.

Not that much smaller field (on the flat anyway), there are the same proportion of swing trades as well so don't expect to get away with scalping all the time just because it's "summer".

Today's daytime number of runners:
12,6,5,6,10,6,6,5,6,9,9,8,6,8

Summer just ain't like that.... ;)

The jumps are exactly like that all year round

8 runners are enough anyway but if 6 runners is going to affect your trading compared to 12 then that's not good.

Daytime runners from Tuesday 19 th July. 7,9,7,5,9,9,8,8,4,11,10,5,7,10. That isn't that much higher. I agree the average number of runners will be far higher during the summer due to all the festivals and 20 runner sprint handicaps etc. Though when comparing the day to day stuff there isn't really much difference.

It all comes down to personal preference though. Some people prefer trading in the summer with more races stretched out over a longer period of time, others will prefer winter where there are less races, but in a more compressed time space.

I just don't think you can generalise by saying if you are losing in February it's because the markets are bad and all will come good in June. It's all down to what suits each individual best.

so if I'm reading into this correctly, the more runners there are the less impact there is on a strong favourite?, because the rest of the book is spread out?, less volume per runner to affect the favourite?

With this year being the first summer that I've participated in, is it not fair to say there's more money flowing than say between October to pre Cheltenham?

There's definitely more races. I don't know about whether or not there will be more money flowing? If I'm honest I don't notice too much difference between how they are now and how they are in the summer. Every market is different, I don't think you can generalise in that way.

I suppose for most people more races equals more profits, and there are far more races to profit from in the summer period. But how exactly the markets change from what they do now regarding money flowing in and out and what they do in the summer, I wouldn't be able tell you.
