Preparation for Cheltenham
You miserable bugger Mr White, people like to reminisce about their favourite horses amd memories when these occasions come about
I've only been to Cheltenham once, but it was a day many won't forget - 16th March 1989, the day Dessie beat Yahoo on the finishing straight
I was 18, and was totally pissed. I was also soaking wet, as the weather was terrible. I had also done my bollocks - I lost £250 that day, which was a fortune for a guy still at College
Everyone was telling me Desert Orchid hates the bottomless ground, so I punted big time on Pipe and Scudamore's highly fancied Bonanza Boy. The noise when Yahoo and Desert Orchid jumped the last was just immense - I was excited even though I had lost. There were people going crazy, even crying when Desert Orchid took the lead

I was there to see Best Mate win his 3rd Gold Cup, though didnt really enjoy it that much as i had a decent bet on Sir Rembrandt and from where i was standing it looked like he was going to get up.
All I can really remember from that day though was how cold it was. Unless you are lucky enough to get in the hospitality boxes/tents i'd much rather be sat at home trading it in the warm!

Just to clear this up, I do appreciate the horses and I do go to race meetings about 4 times a year. I lived about a mile from the Cheltemnham course for nearly 10 years and went to the festival several times.

I might as well add my two pence worth 
My favourites aren't necessarily the best horses but they do bring back fond memories.
Hurdlers. Make a Stand was bought for next to nothing by Martin Pipe and went on to win the Champion Hurdle. He was so quick at his hurdles and they never saw which way he went. I bagged a few quid that year!
Monksfield, Sea Pigeon and Night Nurse. Their battles were legendary and I remember passing my driving test in 1981 and then running home as fast as I could to watch Sea Pigeon retain his crown under John Francome.
Istabraq was a joy to watch, so fast and accurate at the hurdles, probably one of the best.
Chasers. Sprinter Sacre in 2013 was awesome to watch, it was like he only joined in at the turn for home! Badsworth Boy, Viking Flagship showed some real grit as they battled for the Champion Chase.
The one which holds the fondest memory is Davy's Lad. It was the first Gold Cup winner where I had placed my own bet, normally my Granddad would have placed it. My mate and I sneaked out of school so we could watch the race in a TV shop close by
