Again read the below stewards report on Dr Robins race . Might explain the poor runs of the two horses you mentioned . Not being negative . It's useful info

THE DAVID COWGILL MEMORIAL HANDICAP STEEPLE CHASE (CLASS 3)
The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, HOWLONGISAFOOT (IRE), ridden by Leighton Aspell and trained by Chris Gordon, compared with its previous run at Sandown Park on 17 February 2017 where the gelding finished sixth of nine, beaten by 41 ¼ lengths on Soft ground. They noted the explanation given by the trainer’s representative, that the gelding had benefitted from the reapplication of blinkers and additionally appreciated the better going on this occasion, which was also Soft, however in her opinion was much fresher ground with this being the first meeting of the season. They ordered HOWLONGISAFOOT (IRE) to be routine tested.

The representative of Tim Vaughan, the trainer of WINGS OF SMOKE (IRE), which was pulled up, reported that the gelding had a breathing problem.

The Veterinary Officer reported that ALTIEPIX (FR), which was pulled up, trained by Kerry Lee, had bled from the nose.

Sean Bowen, the rider of DR ROBIN (IRE), which was pulled up, reported that the gelding moved poorly throughout. The Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any abnormalities.

Re Tactical Manouervre .. again posted the stewards report as it is important to understand that sometimes there are reasons why a horse runs badly .. or indeed shows improved form ( wind op , blinkers first time etc ).

Knowing it's bled is important and many would avoid the horse the next few runs in case it happens agsin .. how many who read your thread knew it had bled, hence its poor showing
Why wouldn't you want posters to know the possible reason for its poor showing ?

And was being positive in steering posters towards the BHA website and the information in the stewards report .. full of useful information and data

Not always easy to post before the event ..as some of do actually work as well as trade

You are not stepping into territory that is mine, I welcome all comments because I can miss something and also learn.

The horse bled because it was stressed, a common reason. The stress can be caused by a pending illness, infection or because of over exertion. That horse (Tactical Manouervre) simply cannot jump fences well enough due to a lack of conformation and the more he is made to do it, the more stress he is put under.

The nonsense with the explanation to the Ruperts' about the ground being fresh is just that; nonsense. The times suggest soft ground, fresh or not. Okay so the trainer pulled it off and I am pleased for him but prior form did not point in the direction of Gordon's horse.

Agree with you about C Gordons explanation re the winner . Simply a case of the stables horses running well . Incidentally he ended up winning the 16.50 with Funny Oyster to give him 5 winners on the day

Again highlights that small stables who hit form are worth following,and that stable form does impact on a horses price,as no way would Bugsie Malone have started at 7/4

Thank you and don't worry, the comment wasn't aimed at you specifically.

I was taken ill in 2010 after a very minor car accident. It was a rear end shunt by a speeding van driver and I did end up with a painful and genuine whiplash injury. This led to a dead area being found in my brain...no comments please .....and then an issue with the pons area of my brain. Throw into the mix the onset of an auto-immune disorder and I had a nap hand!!

Anyway that is all behind me, after 5-6 years of toxic drugs and monthly MRI scans I changed everything through diet. I removed sugar, vegetable oils and grains (mainly wheat) from my diet and bingo I feel much better.

I did back Remiluc win and place but he was never in it. I also backed Loves Destination but it looked to be beaten tbh. Not travelling at all but somehow picked up and beat the short priced favourite. I passed on Bugsie Malone as it was too short for my liking.
