Hello everyone,

I want to develope strategys from betfair data, but I don't know In what direction to start.
for ex: searching that how many horses touches my selected lay odds inplay.
My main problem is that I don't know what strategys are better, if you search for race type/number of horses/Locations/ surfaces.

Can you help me?

Hello

In the first instance, you need to spend a decent amount of time observing / trading the markets so you can get a feel for how they behave. For example, a competitive handicap will trade very differently from a maiden.

A good starting point might be to narrow it down, so for example:

1) Identify races with fewer runners in the field i.e. 6 or less
2) Watch the activity in the last 10 minutes and then, if you so wish, the race itself
3) Download the data from Betfair so you can see the prices traded

What I would say, is that if you are laying horses in running, you really need to know what you are doing. Many a person has come unstuck by assuming that laying outsiders is the way to make money.

Time and time again you may see a horse that trades at 50 in running but then goes on to win the race. And if you've laid that at 50, you are looking at a huge loss - even with a 'modest' £10 stake.

If this is a route you want to explore in more detail, you can always use the Racing Post website to get a feel for how a horse has run on previous trips.

I should add, I'm not an in running trader - the above advice is just what I've picked up from the knowledgable chaps on this forum.

Final bit of advice:

1) Accept it will take time - you need to go through as many market cycles as possible
2) Accept it will take hard work - you need to be 100% focused on this
3) Accept you will have failures - an old saying: "The difference between a master and a beginner? The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried"
4) Most importantly - enjoy it!

Best of luck with it,
