Just a quick one for the in-running lot, is it fair to say that the "gap" between the back and lay prices on any runner is tighter in higher grade races than the equivalent in lower grade races. Just messing with a bit of in-running automation and dont really have the data to make a call on this yet but I presume it is and it would make sense that this is the case.

That's a good question, with higher grade races there tends to be 'more money in the way' when a runner starts to steam which in turn I assume reduces the gap. I'll run a query tonight to confirm.

Thankyou Linus that would be very much appreciated. Very early days for me looking at this as only ever concentrated pre-off.

Just to bump this post with another question can I just ask the in-play boys do they find that the more 'ambitious' price they ask for the more effective the stratergy? I.e asking for an ambitious price with less matched bets against asking for a 'sensible price' with more matched bets.
Hopefully that makes sense :)

Instead of clogging up the racing forum thought I would stick with this thread....

In-running boys again.

For a basic lay the field stratergy would you recommend 1) pre-set lay of all runners at say 'X', 2) lay runner in running when below 'X', 3) Ask for reverse price when runner trades below 'X'.... It seems that I may be giving away value in what im attempting. Just wondered what peoples thoughts are on this.

Have a look at tracks in the UK/Ireland where the run in to the finish line off the bend is very short. :D

Im not running a lay the field stratergy im just curious how people would go about this as it seemes with the delay you are always giving away a bit of value
