If they had a check-box somewhere in user settings, which would default to cash-out, if the mkt you were involved in was unavailable for more than xxx etc, people could accept etc.

Mkt makers take on bigger than avg positions, relying on back and forward trade.

but, we are just wasting our breath. The exchange does not appear to be a priority, and they just take our comm/PC and have a good laugh.

To play devil's advocate -- I can't be the only one who thinks an outage every now and then is actually healthy? No question that it's poor service from betfair but the outages act as useful reminders that you need to minimise risk relating to all and any services/equipment you rely on before looking at even opening a position.

True, but if ever there was a day for them were it doesn't hurt as much, today's the day. You'd be hard pressed to find any day with less action across different sports than today.

Over 2 hours and they haven't even identified the issue.

Virtually all aspects of the site were down, including deposits -- which is undoubtedly one of the highest priorities within their business model.

Can't wait for their explanation

Cash out relies on taking unmatched bets, so it may not be fair on traders with unmatched bets they would rather cancel if they can't manage them.

Perhaps setting the SP option may be a solution.

I had the same thought for a minute. Views on BF's priorities regarding the exchange aside, they're never ever going to offer that option imho. They'd by default be admitting that their system is liable to crash from time to time. Yeah, there's force majeure that's beyond them, quite apart from their incompetence, but they'd never make that kind of admission in the form of a setting.

You're absolutely correct that those should be fundamentals. Although, if someone needs an outage to teach or remind them of that, I'd make the claim that they're liable to fall into bad habits soon enough anyway. Also, no matter backups and solid staking plans, it can still wipe out a lot of solid work, if you have a bad turn on an unanticipated spin of the wheel of fortune. So, healthy is a stretch for me :)

Hack, who knows, but surely the money is ringfenced somehow! I will say though, that as I recall it, on previous occassions once we've reached a few hours and people get increasingly itchy fingers and get more nasty on their Twitter etc, they have come out with some kind of statement. Usually confirming the issue, denying a hack and/or confirming that people's money is safe. The longer without this sort of message out, the more sketchy it does get....

- - Breaking - -
My inside-woman at betfair HQ has informed me of a multi-user skype call happening right now.

Unfortunately, Breon Corcoran is confirming that it's no longer a free bar at the party tomorrow night.

As more time passes, Jenny from PR is pushing the idea of printing "Rogue employee swindles bookmaker for large sum", however Andrew from HR is advising against that but nobody knows why.

In other news, I'm packing it in + going for a cider.

Betfair is one of the few companies that have their protection of customers funds as high, although not sure if a hack would affect this.
