Morning
Has anyone traded at a live event (via a handheld device or similar?) with good/bad experiences?
I would be interested to hear how you got on?
Thanks
Peter
On Course betting?
I was watching the tennis yesterday and noticed a guy in the crowd furiously tapping information into an iphone
I notice BF has an iphone app
It made me wonder whether this technology could be expoited at live events - laptops are far too obvious, but a mobile phone could open up allsorts of opportunities

Well it's food for thought anyway.
I ended up buying the Ipad a couple of weeks ago and used it last week when I was out of the UK.
I didn't use it for trading as such just setting up guardian in the morning and it was fine..(via VPS)
I was thinking that it would be very easy to construct a spreadsheet for an event and create some form buttons so you could literally just create a position by taping on the screen (could easy built some safety features into the sheet too so that it doesnt exceed a certain limit)...
Might give this a try in the near future...will be a day out at the races if nothing else!
regards
Peter
Could even try it at Old Trafford too...mind you i would have to be profitable just to get the entry price back!...could try Bury at Gigg Lane...Probably a tenner to get in there!

Get to see a proper premiership team at the reebok if you pay 20 quid peter
Peter, where I think perfect territory for testing this is a Championship or League 1 matchPeterLe wrote:Well it's food for thought anyway.

These games are all 'in play' unmanaged.
If it's not on TV, there must be a vital 2-3 second window when being at the match can get the edge
Thats a great point actually LeTiss. Oldham and Rochdale are probably the nearest to me (or even Bolton).LeTiss 4pm wrote:Peter, where I think perfect territory for testing this is a Championship or League 1 matchPeterLe wrote:Well it's food for thought anyway.

I would love to hear some feedback on this too.
The general consensus is that there are eastern european gangs at the events trading courtside and making all the money.
Whereas some other people have suggested its Betfair insiders who are hoovering all the value.
So would be good to know if its actually possible to gain an advantage by being at the game...

Def intend exploring this avenue. Nothing ventured...
I watched the vol's on the Bury game at the weekend and they are relatively low to be honest..also I think that the lower divisions have an 8 second in play delay on unmanaged matches(?)
The 3G (on 3 network) sim I have in my ipad seems to be extremely faster than the 3G sim (On Vodafone) I have in my Iphone.
In addition to the posting above, I also read on an external web site that there were a number of people who rent boxes out with the intention of trading (it suggested that upto 60 people a day were employing this technique?). If anyone on here current does this, would appreciate a steer if you would PM me. Alternatively might take my mate to Haydock in early September, be a day out of nothing else!
Thanks

I know of at least one syndicate that go to the matches and make a killing. Not sure what matches, or how they get around the delay, probably just extremely fast. So if you do find the right matches, you might well be competing with other people who are already there. I would be intrigued at what you find though!

TV pictures on tennis are typically 6-10 seconds behind live, more if you watch in HD. There is a 5 second delay on in running tennis bets, which means that the folks court side have an 'advantage'. The best pictures come from internet streams these days via 365 or Betfair, but I have better success getting 365 streams to run smoothly.
The stream windows pop up small. However a nice trick is to hold down control and with the pointer over the video, scroll-wheel upwards and you can enlarge the window to save your eyes!
I have tried the court side thing with a friend once on the phone - a pathetic attempt, which relied on them saying verbally in or out every point, your normal court side person is far more sophisticated.
If you are sat at home, always cancel bets that are in the firing line 1-3 seconds before the serve is hit on tv.
Edited to reflect better the tv delays and that tip I received to make the 365 windows bigger.

I'm not an expert on the equipment side of things LeTiss.
I'm not sure it is realistic to do this on your own. I much prefer the comfort of my own chair at home anyway, very long hours sat making ultra fast judgements on line calls in often harsh conditions is not my idea of fun. I prefer to weasel them out of their cash whilst relaxing at home
