is every day now going to be like saturdays have been? -> first year trading, started in dec
The flat turf markets trade much differently from the jumps and certainly, from the AW.

Peter has done quite a few blogs on it over the years and there well worth a read if you're in your first few years of trading, he covers all the characteristics of the seasonality and market behavior and what to expect etc as we transition from jumps to flat then back to jumps again - just search for words/terms like 'flat' and 'Racing' etc on the blog site

I'm a bit frustrated. I have a job interview in a couple of weeks. I'd like to trade more; there's a real danger I'll get this job and then I'll have a decision to make.
TAKE THE JOB, TAKE THE JOB, REPEAT.. TAKE THE JOB, with respect you need several seasons worth of reading the markets before you can even think of doing this full time., trust me I've quit 3 jobs to pursue this & have still gone back to a job every time, it's now been three years

If you need to ask others you'll probably be much better off just taking the job. Trading isn't going to disappear any time soon.

Don't take up trading full-time if it still feels like a gamble. It will only increase the pressure.

When asked at the interview what your hobbies/interests are, think carefully about what you say. I once put horse racing on my C.V. and when I got a job they complimented my bravery, but I wonder how many applications were rejected because of it.

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to get into horse racing trading--primarily scalping. However, I know next to nothing about where to find good markets.

1) Where to find the best markets (high liquidity/volume) to practice/trade? On guardian I am seeing markets from many different countries.

2) Any advice as it relates to horse racing for a newbie.

Regards and thanks,
Xandolli.
You'd be better off starting a new topic with that question so more people see it.
Thanks will do.

Xandolli - i'm assuming you are NOT from italy... sorry, in-joke!

but yeah, as derek says, extend your question in a new topic that touches on all your requirements.
Not I am not from Italy. Actually I am from Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean. As an aside I am pretty depressed at how badly Juve got their asses whopped by Real Madria yesterday lol!

You can always quit if you hate it, or it might take you somewhere suprisingly good.

+1 on the comments about doing both, nice steady wage & gravy in the evenings & weekends.

As Dallas says, take the job!

I've been trading on and off for over 3 years now and I still can't see a light at the end of the tunnel with regard to going full time. Thats just me of course - you may well do better (I hope you do!).

Without going mad, let your job pay for your teading (but set up and stick to a realistic amount per week/month that you can afford to lose!). If you are unable to discipline yourself, let Betfair do it for you and set up a maximum amount that you can deposit.

I wish you well for your trading future and, more importantly, your job interview. All the best.

Gotta say: the more I trade Australian racing markets, the more I despise UK racing markets. Too noisy and erratic.

I don't despise UK markets, they require a different approach, but I know exactly what you mean about Australian markets. I think my last 18 markets at Rosehill are profitable. Try putting a run like that together at Lingfield or Southwell!
