Hi
I need some recipes against back pain. it usually comes up when sitting long hours behind computer. I guess everybody from time to time have this problem. So do you use any special chairs {I was thinking to buy a massage chair}, or do some exercises. Any tips are welcome

cheers

Although I don't own one I believe that the kneeling chair should help relieve back pain.

I can remember reading on Peter's blog a few years back about the benefits of a kneeling chair. Since then I have also seen Adam write about it on his blog.

Gone through 2 kneeling chairs before and ended with Stokke (Varier) Thatsit (just like Adam's). Here's Adam's post:

Here's mine:

I'm happy with it. It's doing the job.

I remember Peter's newsletter in pdf some time ago about kneeling chair. Couldn't find it, maybe Peter still has it.

Had a really bad back pain a year or so ago, and it was getting worse by day. Somehow discovered that running relieved it, so started to run everyday, few weeks later I was like new :)

If you are sat at your desk for any period of time it's really important to exercise your back.

I used a kneeling chair for some time after I hurt my back, but I found the best thing for it was exercise. I forced myself to walk every lunch time and that stopped the problem from reoccurring and now I do exercise regularly at the Gym including exercises to support my back.

I am back in normal furniture and haven't had a hint of a back problem since I changed my routine.

My body is a temple, but now and again it's an amusement park.

When trading all afternoon before you know it you have been sat in your seat for 4 hours and not moved. So it is important to make yourself get up regularly throughout a trading session. If you are based upstairs in your house make yourself go downstairs for say the toilet, to get a drink etc. Another example of something to help force you up and out of your seat is to use a smaller glass for your drink meaning you have to get up for a refill more often.

Also consider using a foot rest as this helps improve position and circulation.

Prevention is better than a cure so invest in a decent chair if you are spending long periods sat in your chair - don't get a £50 Argos chair, get one with plenty of adjustment and adjust it correctly to fit you. You want one with plenty of support etc.

Also get out and do exercise every day. You should be doing this anyway unless you want to become another one of the lard arses that seem to be taking over the country.

Also regular breaks from the screen will also help your eyes out and ensure you have adequate lighting where you are trading.

And make sure your screens are setup up correctly.

I always find letting a hefty lay go inplay usually gets me out of my seat, especially when it goes on to win.

I think Peter's probably right about exercise helping.

I don't have a bad back, but I have put on over 2 stone since becoming a full-time trader!

It's so easy when you spend 8-10 hours a day working from home, drinking endless coffee, whilst dunking biscuits in between the Tennis sit downs. I've decided to start formulate an exercise routine

I had a foot injury that prevented me from exercising during the whole summer and I think it had a negative impact on my concentration. As it was somewhat limitating (I couldn't run even if it was raining cats and dogs!), I think my confidence also droped.

As the only thing I could do was swimming, I went to the nearest swimming-pool after vacations and now I swim about one hour nonstop 3 times a week. It is very difficult to measure concentration or confidence, but I'm pretty sure they are back in track ;)

I also discovered it's a really good introspective time. Let's face it, swimming is boring, but as there is no distractions at all, it gives me time to come up with some ideas and organize them.

Sporting is good ;)

Try sitting on a yoga ball whilst at your desk - lad at work used to do this, also my 10 year old lad sits on one all the time when he's playing his x-box. I would but I drink too much
