Anybody actually, or thought about, going to the course to trade - armed with a laptop?

There is no way you can (or should) trade with you are on the course. Just listen and ask questions. It's very intensive, and very worthwhile.

I once attempted to trade in play on course in Ireland,..I found it to be very hard. It was too difficult to take advantage of good trading oppertunities. For example when you are in the stands and looking at the track you have to concentrate on attempting to identify each runner and weight up their position and chances. When you think you may have a chance to enter the market, you have to refocus your eyes on your laptop, position your cursor on the horse that you want to trade and ensure that you back / lay at the correct price. These few seconds were crucial and any value propositions quickly dissappeared. So it wasn't for me and I gave up after about three races.

You could do it with a two/three man team strategically placed on the course in contact on mobile phones but like David says its tricky just on your own.

Often thought it would be good trading at the football on a non-sky premiership match. Would just need a press pass (because you get a great view, a little desk and internet connection) and then whenever a team starts an attack (to allow for the 5 second BF delay) you can lump in a bet and you're really far ahead of those watching on dodgy foreign TV channels. If no goal is scored should be able to get out at around the same price. The tricky bit would be getting set up at a Prem ground....

I went to the races on Sunday and phoned a friend to compare his feed with my on course view and it was around 4-5s out. There is only a 1 sec in play delay isn't there?
