Hi Guys,
I've been trading now for about 6 months and I'm doing ok. My stake size is €50 regardless of the horses odds and I generally average €2 profit per race (4%).
I'm just wondering what sort of percentage is a good return for other traders?
I'm considering upping my stakes and before I do would just like to know if 4% is a good target going forward. I don't expect and wouldn't ask anyone to post their profits on here but would be very interested to know what sort of average (percentage wise) the more succesful traders aim for.
Thanks in advance
What percentage return of stake is a good target?
how do you mean your stake is 50-00 do you mean your laying a 8-1 horse for example for a 50-00 stake (350 liability) ? or do you mean your liability is allways 50-00 in total.
4% is pretty good, about the same as me
but that is 4% on my total bank so depends how you have worked it out.

The first example Freddy. My stake is always 50 so the liability varies depending on the odds of the horse. Because I haven't been trading too long I always use 50 stakes, I never vary it even if I see a good oppurtunity. I find that this way its much easier for me to assess how I've done at the end of the day. The 4% is my return on the stake (50) per race, it averages out to be about €2 per race.
Thanks Exacta.. So many different ways to work it out

I work it out as a % of my total bank size per day as apposed to per race, think most do the same.
For example if i had 1000-00 bank i could prob make 40 -50 quid a day 4-5% of my bank on adverage.
If you worked it out like that it would give us a better idea of how your doing.
4% per race sound allot but if your laying first your stake is not really 50-00 it could be 500-00 for example laying at 10-1,
so that in my book is 0.4% of bank not 4%.

Good point Freddy,
It makes sense that when i'm laying its actually more than a €50 stake.
I've been very consistent over the past couple of months. At the beginning of each week I start with a bank of €500 and have been averaging between €350-€400 profit after 7 days trading, then I withdraw the difference from my account so that on Monday I have 500 again. So I suppose I'm averaging 10% of my bank per day?
I withdraw my profit each week because while trading I only ever have one trade in the market at a time, if it doesnt work or goes against me I just scratch it and start again. This way I dont need anymore than 500. Also I want to be sure I'm ready to up my stakes to say 100 before I do it and this way I have no temptation to do something silly or panic. I'm comfortable using these stakes for now.

i trade the tennis and aim for 10% of my stake per match, which equates to about 3% of my bank. i usually get more than 10%, i'd say my average is around 15%, but i aim for 10% as it is easily attainable and so takes the pressure off (past experience tells me pressure = rash decisions). it's not unusual for me to follow a match for 2hours with no trading, then an opportunity arises and i get my goal. also, i don't mind taking perhaps just 7% because i know the next match might net me 14%. it all averages out.
Thats a great discipline to have, being able to watch an event for long periods without feeling the need to trade just for the sake of it.
I think thats a mistake a lot of people make. When asked what makes a good and succesful trader peole very rarely say patience but its very important.
