Hi
I was just reading another thread on here and it mentioned about betfair fraud..(just google "betfair Fraud")..

the first link :-

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/fo ... .php?66965

Suggests that there 'may' have been some breach...
..and this had me thinking how I would feel if I lost my whole bank to fraud.

I know it's important to have enough funds in your account to cover certain bets...but equally there is no point having too much as it gains no interest. I the past I have drawn out anything over a certain amount on a weekly basis..and paid it into an ISA or Premium Bonds.

I just wondered what other people do? Do you tend to shuffle money backwards and forwards.?? or do you leave it to build and build??

Thanks
Peter

I generally remove it when i get to a certain level enough to cover a few days racing if it went bad. As you say it costs nothing to withdraw or deposit and you get no interest, so you should do it regularly especially if the betfair police ever decide to suspend your account for investigation as they did with me once, before accepting i was just running a bot i designed myself!

I have previously moved money around between UK and AUS wallets, just so the bot doesn't accidentally bet the house on a single race, but i don't bother now as i'm happy it's clever enough not to do this!

outrageous stance by betfair, as usual...

tbh much as i love the facilitiy to back/lay and the liquidity provided. To call their level of customer service poor, would be an insult to the poverty stricken.

if you prefer to start your day with the same bank every day you could use for example <ExchangeGames> on betfair as a temporary wallet.

Thanks Guys some good advice..
I too do a similar thing (ie move my money to my Aus Wallet) when testing new bots.
I did set up a separate bank account for moving money around so I should start using it. I think I would literally cry if my account was ever frozen and it had my entire bank in it! ha! :D
I like the idea of starting the bank at the same amount each day, rather than just let it grow and grow..
Food for thought - Thanks

Peter

My account has just been hacked and my entire balance wiped out in USD on the poker tables. This has no doubt been moved to another single 'legitimate' user before being withdrawn. I guess i have to man up and accept some responsibility for this happening but it is difficult to swallow. Betfair have not even as yet managed to return any of my phone calls and appear less than sympathetic. They have closed my account and are investigating the fraud. The thread on the consumer action group is worth 2 minutes of anyone's time. At the very least we should be regularly changing our passwords and using a mixture of upper and lower case letters and numbers, as laid out in section 4 of the t&c's. I would recommend you don't leave large sums in your Betfair account again.

It's concerning that there appear to be a number of problems out there. Enough to make anybody nervous.

Did you check your my security area? Was there an unusual IP in there?

I didn't get chance as Betfair suspended the account the instant i reported the fraud. Once suspended you have no access to my account settings and shortly after they closed the account, so you can't even log in. I can see why people criticize Betfair's customer service as i have not even received a courtesy call from them as yet.

Have they detailed what their remit is? I mean can people prove fraud?

I guess you have the problem that people might lose money and then blame fraud, so how would you disprove that? Is there some process which can prove that it was fraud? If not then Betfair will probably just sit and shrug their shoulders? :(

The worry i have is that my password and user id were unique to Betfair. No other bookmaker accounts were effected yet i had large deposits elsewhere and access those accounts from the same computer and as often as i access Betfair.

Just to add, Betfair have detailed only that it is being investigated and they are awaiting information from their poker provider. It took more than one call made by me to get that information. I have not even had a courtesy call from the fraud investigation team or anyone at Betfair. I'm sure they are very busy but a courtesy call takes seconds.

the only thing i can advice you is to be as far as you can from BETFAIR poker or casinos. I heard many stories about how corrupt is the site itself. On the other hand the betting site is quite solid. In fact you can separate the 2 if you wish. I believe you won`t get a penny back. good luck.

How can you separate them please?
I have never used the poker or casino sites before and have no interest in them. I wasn't aware they could be separated. The money in my account was transfered to the poker site by the fraudster not myself.

Is it just customers who switch money between wallets who are being stung, or is there a problem with Betfair security in general?

nhughz, have you run a spyware or security scan on your computer?

Peter is right though - Betfair are probably a little cool to fraud reporting due to the possibility of them looking for losers being returned. However, it's disgraceful that you can be exposed to fraud, but not at least get customer service to treat you with dignity or respect
