I think that if I wwere you and I didn't get it back I would go public with it

sure, I appreciate this is a sensitive subject for us all who regularly trade on betfair.

I was just pointing out the link in the initial post

http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/fo ... .php?66965

was initially started on 19th February 2007 so possibly could be out of date with any current issues.

I had to call Betfair back again today to see if any progress has been made. I am very disappointed that i have not received a single call from them in two days and have had to do the chasing myself. I have still not spoke to anyone in the Fraud Investigation dept as apparently it would be a waste of their time until they have collected all the information they require. A note has been put on my account to say the investigation is still ongoing but that my account was accessed from the same ip address and same computer used in the fraudulent transactions on Nov 8th. They will not give me the ip address or location of the ip address but are suggesting that my account has not been compromised as the ip address and computer was used on Nov 8th, but will not discuss what activity took place during that session or the time of access (because there wasn't any - i check my p&l daily as most other users probably do). This is something users need to be made very aware of and check daily as its odds on i'm not getting a refund. I can't begin to express how disappointed i am with Betfair and the customer service i have received. I've been made to feel like the finger is actually being pointed at myself. There must be thousands of customers left open to this kind of fraud on a daily basis. It's looking like a painful and expensive lesson. Be warned.

As it stands if i am not refunded which looks likely, i am thinking more along the lines of tabloid newspapers.

Go to the press mate

Betfair will soon pull their finger out if there's a danger of the public losing confidence in them

I'd give the BBC a ring - this is the sort of thing they would love to put on Watchdog

hi Jim
yes it was an old link...
i was reading another forum where some had had a similar problem and it got me around to thinking about security on my account. So the problem Nhughes and the link are not actually linked other that the fraud aspect.

Hi NHughz,

You must be gutted mate.

The great thing about Betfairs setup up is that they think they can always wash their hands.

I would contact them and let them know that you have checked everything at your end.

As far as you are concerned it must be an inside Job

How else would anyone know what the balance was in your account.

Would an outsider know that your account was worth hacking. Nope, not unless they were Psychic.

Tell them you are going to contact the regional Fraud Squad to investigate the possibility that it was a Betfair Employee.

I would think that Betdaq would be interested in your story too

They are about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike

regards

Hi Mate

doesn't quite cover it if it was a Member of Betfair's Staff.

They still have a Duty of Care

There's every chance nhughz they will ban you from opening a new account if you start making life tough, or accusing thier own staff. It's got to be worth it though hasn't it? I'd be beside myself with rage if this whole situation had happened to me.

I once lost £107 from my NatWest bank account. It turned out other customers had lost money too. Guess who was responsible? - yep, you've guessed it, a NatWest employee. I received a goodwill gesture from the bank (just to shut me up basically). I never knew what happened to the employee though, as he had disappeared to Miami the last I'd heard

Seriously though, I'd definitely contact the media. I'm sure the Racing Post would be interested! - it's full of traditionalists who would love to hear of negative Betfair press

Hi

Recently I went on holiday and when I got back noticed a £50 bet had been made from my account, I called betfair and the response i got from them was that the bet was made from the same computer as all other transactions, i replied by telling them that unless someone had broken in my house and placed the bet then this was not possible as I was in Spain.
I logged into my account and realised that on the day the bet was placed that no login was registered and the last login was prior to my holiday, I got back in touch with betfair and made them aware of this. A couple of days later I got an email back from them saying that it had been a telephone bet and had refunded my account, I was happy to get the refund but the whole things stinks, Betfair were quick to try and fob me off without properly looking into the matter and then gave me no explanation of how or what happened.Im still very suspicious of what really went on and I am not convinced that the bet was an error!
The whole episode has made me lose my faith and confidence in betfair.
