It will always place the amount you have selected from your pre-set stakes
Have you checked you don't have your 'net' stake selected as your preset stake?
If your net is currently zero then your effectively trying to place a bet of £0 when trying to place a bet

Is the market suspended, if so you can't bet into the market or if it is inplay there is a varying delay on bet placement e.g. 1 second after you click the order is submitted into the market.
