Laying the field

hi guys

i have been playing with laying the filed over Christmas and have been profitable so far with race selections and tweaking here and there.

The first race this morning i laid at 1.5 odds however, although two passed this target only one was matched at 1.33, any ideas why this didn't match at 1.5 and the other horse didn't match at all?

Just because the back price goes below 1.5 doesn’t mean the lay price did....

And if you read that sentence many times then you will figure out a small golden nugget.

i now see that i can turn everything off so it only shows the lay and not the back

What price did you submit the lays for?

What price did they match at?

Did you submit them pre-race or in-running?

Sorry Derek I’m not very good at this.

It was only a £10 lay, placed pre-off (10 seconds) at 1.5 on all runners and kept in play.

I understand that the second may not have hit the 1.5 lay number but I cannot get my head around the one that did match, matched at 1.33.

Which race? Only explanation is you actualled layer at 1.33 or there was a non runner before the start, probably the latter.

Would I be right in saying that Betfair give you the best value when they take your trade,possibly the price moved that quick with the 1 second delay the trade was submitted and the spilt second delay meant it placed the lay at 1.5 but Betfair placed it at 1.33 ie better value, In my experience Betfair will matches all day long on losing trades but when one goes your way you have unmatched bets all over the show,especially when in trades at those kind off odds,The way I get around this is to have 3 rules all the same apart from time inrunning,for example have 1= rule to be active 0.1seconds inplay,with a 0.5 fill or kill,and 2nd rule 0.6_1second and third but have it in a way that it is looped so as soon as one bet is kill the next is placed,

I can see that i layed 7no horses but only 6no ran.

Yeah it was the NR, place the bet closer to the start / inplay to prevent this, betdaq have a setting to prevent the price you asked for changing on a NR but Betfair don’t.

tbh i had developed my auto during the day for more signals and placing 5 seconds into the race to eliminate the need for a keep in play.

I remember from an old thread about laying the field when related how I laid the field at 1.5 on a race on the all weather. An outsider and the short priced favourite hit the line together there was tight photo finish, the outsider was called the winner yet only the favourite was matched at 1.5

Exactly they will not match you on a winner,but if they can help it but match you for all the tea in China on a loser,
