Do you guys use 1 tick offsetting when trading, or do you wait for one order to be filled before placing the counter order?

Personally don't see why anyone would do that, It's far better to put the back and lay up at the same time imo.

unless of cause you have a small bank and are backing 1st as opposed to laying, then there may be some merit in it

You should do both really...(if you only use one method you are limiting yourself)

If you have a market that is attracting a lot of money..and has a large amount on the back side as well as the lay, you can place amounts each side and wait (relatively safely) until they filter their way to the front...if one side gets matched and the other doesnt (nor look likely) you can easily trade out safely..(good on the pre kick off on football)

There are also many methods for the second scenario too Jeff a lot of them have been covered I think in the forum in one guise or another??

I can get a novice to profit using the offsetting tool given the right market and setup. But ....essentially all trading is about timing. If you exhibit no timing skill, i.e. when to enter the market and where, then you will do little better than random. There are times when it makes sense to enter on one side before the other, even if you are just doing it speculatively.
