Though that may be optimistic here of course.

Time to finally do that work on 'moving to different markets' that we've all been putting off then.... :| :?
Was thinking the same thing. Very annoying when I first saw the news, but feeling quite positive now about having a real good look at other stuff if we are facing a long break from the usual

McCain had a runner yesterday so extreme caution, doubtful Monday's fixture will go ahead

I didn't know that, shows how quick things can potentially spread.

Let's just hope these tests all come back negative. It seems the quick action by the BHA yesterday evening has averted it potentially getting into the Irish horse population as all the Irish runners in the UK yesterday were diverted away from their yards after getting off the boat home.

Fingers crossed it is contained and is just a short interruption with a bit of luck.

3 to 5 days is the incubation period I believe from various articles so horses should be showing signs soon if they have been infected. Problem is they then have to think about the horses they have come into contact with back at the yard and who they have come into contact with and so on.

The recent cold snap and racing being off is in hindsight potentially a good thing as will have helped limit potential spread.

Heard a couple of weeks ago that there was something going round, but word was that it was in Ireland.

Reckon Cheltenham is a 50/50 to be honest but horse welfare needs to come first!

I would say it is far too early and too little information is known yet to speculate about Cheltenham. If it has been contained it could be just a blip in proceedings with less of an impact than the recent cold spell has had.

I think we will know a good bit more this evening according to the BHA.

Having just listened to the BHA on 5Live Wolverhampton has been ordered to complete a deep clean which is no quick process and then I think they said no racing can take place there for at least 4 days once it is completed. It all sounded precautionary.

The BHA etc seem to have a good action plan in place so lets hope their proactive approach is going to keep disruption to a minimum.

Quote from the BBC website report;
"Horses that have contracted equine flu can develop a high fever, coughing, nasal discharge and sometimes swelling of the lymph nodes. The incubation period is usually days but recovery can take weeks, or even months."

this could have long-period consequences if horse recoveries impact their expected performances on their return. I wonder how large an impact that will have on say, expected favourites win ratios for the weeks to come compared to before the outbreak ?

Breaking news: The British Horseracing Authority has this afternoon taken the decision that racing will not resume in Britain until Wednesday 13 February at the earliest.

I thought it may be fun to invite Bet Angel users to the office.

(Great idea - but how big is your new office? a warehouse size?) :)
