i had a nice profit before that which promptly evaporated. So that's the real back story to that race. The silly thing is I knew it was about to happen!

I used to be a free bet man a few years ago, now I just green up. I don't think it makes much difference long-term, nice when it wins, frustrating when you have a run of losers. But I certainly wouldn't want to get bogged down with making a decision every time as to whether to green-up or let the free bet run.

If you're a newbie I would say don't hedge, you want a few occasional big wins, as they won't count towards PC calc.
