Hi
I was just wondering what the normal daily routine would be for a full time trader...
I'm currently employed and trading is a part time thing for me. I would jump at the chance of redundancy and feel fairly confident (if I was a betting man (",) that compulsary redundanices are not too far away...).
Either way this will be my last job, I hope.
18 months ago, I moved from an office environment to being home based. Which has its advantages, as I can trade in the afternoon, if I choose to...and others (no sitting on the motorway each morning/evening trying to get to work); However the one thing I missed greatly was the office banter and chats with my colleagues..."hey did you see that on TV last night.." or ribbing the scoucers when we beat them at Old Trafford!, just general interaction with others..
On the days I'm not travelling, I get up early and am usually logged on to work by 07:30 (as I dont have to commute), I dont take any calls till 11am and then return the messages whilst I walk through the park to get some exercise (kill two birds with one stone)...three times a week I try and swim, then back for lunch and try and do a couple of hours trading.
Anyway before I waffled on..! ...How do you full time guys spread your day in terms of routine and how do you deal with the isolation??
Thanks
Peter
Your Daily Routine
I'm always up by 7am, I then load 50 markets into Guardian that I'm planning to trade on today
I then load them into my Excel workbook, study the form to give myself an overall idea who I think people will be wanting to back or lay. I open oddschecker or bestbetting to note the major 14 bookies prices, what's drifted or shortened, what the historical price changes have been & compare them with the ladder and BA graphs.
By 9.30 I'm starting to throw my money around
If football is on I'll trade until 9.30pm, whilst also recording various sports results + my own trading analysis
I've never worked so many hours, but I wouldn't change my job for the world. I've often said on other threads that getting made redundant in June 2008 was a blessing
With regards to the isolation, this is something people may struggle with, but it's no problem for me. I'm an only child, so am used to my own company. Also, over the years I've worked with some absolute tossers, so it's nice not to engage in office politics.
The biggest problem I have is explaining to people what I do for a living!

I get up about 10am, if i'm being good I'll pop the gym, if not I'll just chill out till about 12am then I'll load the uk races up and trade till about 4pm, no looking at form or even other sports (something I need to do really). On an Evening I try and pop out to see parents or freinds.
The isolation does get to me a bit and I do miss the banter with the lads too, I've been trading about 4 years. Other downside is that some weeks you can lose money! although very rare, when you have mortgage and other bills to pay for it can get a little worrying.

Funny... My reply to this thread would be this alomst word for word, it really does show we are all in the same boat! In some ways its a shame where scattered all over the world because a local base where we could meet up & trade / chat would be ideal.rhysmr2 wrote:I get up about 10am, if i'm being good I'll pop the gym, if not I'll just chill out till about 12am then I'll load the uk races up and trade till about 4pm, no looking at form or even other sports (something I need to do really). I have found that having other hobbies is essential, I am a member of a golf society, last year i learned to scuba dive, I regularly go the gym and this year I took DJ lessons and i'm currently looking for a slot somewhere on a Fri or Sat nite, I think without these things I'd go stir crazy!
pretty similar too!
I get up at 9 though (lazy arse Rhys!!). Either go for a run or have some pt. Have some lunch and trade the afternoon.
Its definately important to get out! I do a socialising website thing so usually have a few things to do each week with that. Without that I'd probably go stir crazy!

I find keeping your professional employment and trading in between rolls in big cash, one will always be secure the other touch and go. Am obviously a part time trader. Things like today of bad weather would be a little worrying for me as a full timer.jimrobo wrote:pretty similar too!

Get up about 10:00 - 10:30,
go for a run / bike, to wake me up,
turn on p.c about 15 mins from 1st race as i need no preperation time, trade for 4-8 hours whilst watching tv or listening to the radio.
then when finished free to do as i like rest of the day
a very good life imo

Alpha,
Things like bad weather are an opportunity to do something else.....like explore other sports that you may not have time to do.
If the money is so tight that a few abandoned meetings cause concern it means your bank isn't big enough.
I have been chilled out since friday and I am enjoying it

I wake up very earli as well to study all the football matches available on the day. I usually start to trade around midday until 8 to 10 in the evening. I dont do horses, snooker, cricket, rugby, darts due personal opinion about the integrity of odds available and manipulations.
I`m part time trader but trading over 50 hours a week. Saturday and Sunday wake up 11:00 to get brekfest ,starting my two computers. Look what a first football match is in with the correct liability for me and start trading. After 20 minutes in the busy days all my money are gone (over 10K) and I start open other markets for later trading. Than I put my 7 years son front of computers to watch if our money have been taken. He call me if need. I do the lunch or clean the house. After about 14:00 I sit behind the computers up to about 18:00 when the last matches start. I do the last matches after 18:00 as the first, with my son. I don`t know most the times the odds on oddschecker I just trade paterns. End of the day I withdraw full profit and startet again next day with same bankroll. I got strickt rules which I created myself from august when I started trading only pre KO football for living. For fun the F1 and tennis.I do pay premium charges, but not the data charges.I do about 120 markets a day with aprox. 4-5 minuses. My markets are correct score, match odds (draw 99% ),under 1.5,2.5,4.5,5.5 . Record in turn over was 272K a day in October(was sitting there from unknown reason from 5:30 am). Profit for saturdays and sundays is between double and tripple of my weekly salary. In week days I work from 5:30 up to 14:00 and I`m trading about 1 hour before the matches start. I do betting on Italy league as well.My plan is get 6 times my yearly salary and trade for full.I hope for the next season It`s gona happend. GL to all
Guys
Thanks - some interesting posts...
Petardo - Have you tried linking an excel spreadsheet to Betangel?...rather than have your son sitting there waiting for a bet to be matched you could put a condition on one of the cells that plays a sound when the cell goes negative ? (I have'nt done this myself but I'm sure it would be easy to do??)
If you connected some external speakers to your PC and cranked up the sound you should be able to hear it within the house??

Get some wireless headphones or a bluetooth headset perhaps instead.PeterLe wrote:If you connected some external speakers to your PC and cranked up the sound you should be able to hear it within the house??
