First off let me say I do not care about being over charged by the amount of 1p.
What I do care about is the fact I am being over charged on something I think is an abuse of a monopolistic position.
Last week I noticed that when I logged into my account I had been overcharged by 1p on my Premium Charge. The reason I noticed this is because I leave enough in my account to cover the charge and leave me with my trading bank for the start of racing on Wednesday.
As i had nothing better to do I sent Betfair an email asking why I had been overcharged and they replied saying:
I have looked into this for you and I am unable to provide you with an explanation as to why your account was debited an extra £0.01. I have credited £0.01 to the account for you to cover this.
I had assumed it was down to rounding but clearly not, they just over charged me. As I outlined in the email I sent to them it was not the amount I was overcharged but the fact I had been and had I not spotted it it would go unnoticed. I asked for an assurance that it wouldn't happen again and that steps were taken to ensure this would not happen again and went on to explain how I now have less confidence in them with regards to how much they charge in terms of commision on each market. But as you can see from the response above they decided to ignore my questions.
Even if they are just over charging by 1p a market it builds up to a notable amount over the year and multply it up by all users and it is considerable.
The reason for this post is that I was over charged again this week. When chatting to Adam Heathcote tonight he too said he had been over charged and was the same as me very annoyed with the fact he had been overcharged on the principle rather than the amount and was also going to complain to Betfair
With the recent post on this forum about Betfair not doign reduction factors correctly my confidence in them is falling.
So I was interested to know if anyone else had been over charged on their Premium Charge.
Let me again say though it is not the amount that matters but the fact that they do it.
The 1p Premium Charge over charge - anyone else?
Betfair appear to have 'rounding errors' everywhere. If you look at individual commissions they seem to be rounded up all the time. The new unmatched bet 'display' process is rounded in the favour of Betfair. The cross matching has loose cash floating around. The exchange rates don't match cross border.
Other than that, they are clean. LOL!!
They must be making millions a year from these 'errors'
I do fear for Betfair, they used to be the punters champion but now they just want to fleece everybody the same way as the bookmakers always have.

I heard back from them eventually saying it had been an oversight and thank you for letting them know. I am sure they are still doing it and over all the many many markets etc etc they are making a nice little extra profit.
To individual users it doesn't make much difference being overcharged 1p but multiply it up and they could me making a lot from it.
