Is it possible to trade with yourself on betfair?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if it's possible to wash trade on betfair.

E.g.:

I put in a lay at 3 (for example on the website)
then on BA I put in a back at 3 in the same market on the same runner.....

What happens?

Nothings happens, your trade is just scratched. To stop the odds being affected, Betfair will not show self matching in it's volume figures. So the market won't see this either.

I remember in the early days of Betfair the volume would change with matching your own bet

I'm not sure when they changed it, but clearly this was a way of distorting the liquidity
