I've just had my Betfair account suspended and wondered what the alternatives are. I've had a Betdaq account for years that I only use as insurance for Betfair outages. I'm giving it a go with actual trading today. Same old problem with liquidity though.
So I'd like to ask fellow experienced traders, if/when your account was closed, the best alternative. I'm thinking Smarkets or Matchbook.
Betfair Alternative
Is your account suspended or closed?Grinderman wrote: ↑Sat Oct 19, 2019 11:50 amI've just had my Betfair account suspended and wondered what the alternatives are. Do a forum search about contacting Betfair to get it reopened.

It's suspended pending further scrutiny, but I don't know how that will pan out. Meantime, I need an alternative.

Think I am going to have to give Smarkets a go unless anyone on here severely puts me off. I tried Betdaq on Saturday doing a slightly scaled down version of my normal Betfair Saturday. Just doing £200 offsets from 10am until an hour before the off on the ITV races. It was painfully slow. Took an age to get matched. 1 big drifter wiped out all of the profits from the rest. Caught with £400 I couldn't lay.

Anyone noticed you can't phone Betfair anymore?
When you say you can't phone them do you mean their phone just rings and rings with no response (which does happen on rare occasions)? Or do you suspect that they won't take a call from you personally? By that I mean are you using your regular mobile/landline to call them with no response?
As far as I'm aware they still have a phone service.
About 12 years ago on a particular day I'd been betting as usual on Betfair when suddenly in the middle of the afternoon I found my account had been suspended. I rang Betfair who asked me to send images of ID which I did and my account was then unsuspended.
Sometimes we can purely innocently or inadvertently bet in a way that might match something they're investigating.
There must be an appeals procedure which you need to apply for. It can't just be like the situation you have sometimes with a partner that decides you're cheating on them and refuses to let you explain or take your calls.
I remember another issue I had a few years ago when I opened an account with Paddy Power. I had a couple of bets and then a day or so later my account was suspended! I rang them and they said it was because I was in America! I live in the UK.
I tried to explain that I was in UK to no avail. Eventually I went into my local Paddy Power with my UK driving licence, explained the problem to the manager there and got her to ring customer sevices. They still wouldn't accept I was in the UK!
It turned out the IP address for EE is or was based in the US! In spite of that I've never had a problem with any other bookie or exchange account re my location.

No, they don't have a contact us phone number anymore. If you call the normal contact phone number 0344 871 0000, says they stopped using it. Google Betfair, and no phone number comes up.

I'm back! Don't know what it was all about. Sent a few things in that they asked for, waited 2 weeks and unsuspended after 3 weeks. Don't know what it was all about. My Smarkets experiment will have to wait. Won't want to go back to Betdaq in a hurry though - doesn't suite my modus operandi.
