I still thing another 'quick fix' (hopefully!) that would be really beneficial is for guardian not to waste time refreshing sheets X mins before the off (customisable by user), so one can load 100 markets into guardian for later in the day, safe in the knowledge that it won't bother refreshing these until closer to the off
e.g. in greyhounds there is literally NO action until about 2 mins before the start time so it would be great if guardian could just ignore the market until then enabling me to set up all the markets and excel links in the morning for the days racing
Currently this is not possible, but I like the fact guardian keeps the same order of sheets when one is removed, enabling me easily to add the new races in the same order and then remove the suspended markets without having to repoint guardian back at excel each time which is very time consuming... i think other users might find this also.
Please let me know if you need any more clarification
thanks!
problem with Guardian/excel
I would agree completely with top trader on the refresh issue (i.e. only refresh those in-play or next to start), so that one can setup even hundreds of markets in advance.
I too have this problem at the moment and would be very happy if Bet Angel implemented this change.

Sorry guys, but I totally disagree on only refreshing data 10mins before the off
If you've loaded 50-100 tennis or football matches into Guardian, the fact it's constantly refreshing the data is good. If Guardian stopped refreshing football matches until there was only 15mins to go, that would be a major backward step IMO

The solution should be customisable.
If you load 100 markets, even on 200ms delay that's 20 seconds to refresh and if you monitor 2 markets for your strategy, say the 'win' market and 'place' market for horses that's 40 seconds.
In greyhounds in 40 seconds you'd miss most of the action and only have a couple of chances to place bets so there has to be some way of speeding up the refresh time.

Hi,
again I agree with Toptrader, I don't quite understand what LeTiss is saying, but of course there must be cases where the way Guardian is operating now is fine because it's designed that way, so, customisable is the answer, which should be not too difficult to implement. For me it'd be sufficient if the events were loaded into their respective sheets when their time comes like it happens when they get loaded into the BA software or through it and not as soon excel is connected.
I've been looking briefly into the greyhound market but I don't quite understand how it works in the sense that it's quite different from horse racing. I.e. in a horse race there is a clear start with an "In_play" indicator, the quotes go all over the place but one can tell who is winning or losing, the end is also very evident because a "suspended" comes on and above all it's generally very clear who won.
In the greyhound all this is totally confused, there is no evident start, the quotes don't move much and certainly don't get to 1.01 for the winner, suddenly it's over before one can say what's happened, and on top of this the volume is poor (sometimes a few hundreds). Can you please say, Toptrader, how you operate? The positive facts are that there seem to be many races every day, hardly affected by weather, very short and, last but not least, starting sharp on time, so I'd like to get into this market.
Thanks

Most of the races don't go in-play so you need to settle up (or do whatever your strategy says) before the off
You can almost always guarantee the off will be about 30 seconds after the official time although it can of course occasionally run later.
Liquidity seems ok to me, a few £00k matched each race for me is fine, even taking a small % of this could still add up over the course of the day

You can trade greyhounds perfectly well, only the televised races go inplay.
We loaded up 80+ into Guardian this morning with a switching time of 480 seconds. So it will arrive on the market well before the 2 minute time window. As markets are settled Guardian will skip those and switch faster to the remaining fixtures. You should be fine on greyhounds.

thanks for checking. I have updated my code to use the BA switching feature and not the built in excel integration within guardian where you have to select the excel sheet etc
This still misses the point though - For a single market your solution works fine using the BA switching as you have checked. For trading multiple markets though can you tell me how we can trade e.g. if trading the place and win markets on the same race?? There is still no easy solution for this. The excel feature in guardian won't work as at the start of the day the refresh time is too long if cycling through 100 markets, and the BA swtiching won't work as you can only have 1 market at a time not both. The solution i have adopted is multiple instances of betangel and excel with some clever VBA to manage these multiple excel instances
PS any chance of adding the Forecast markets to 'Quick Picks'? I know you can text search which is another amazing feature, but is a little messy as you'd have the markets out of order. Having the FC markets load in the order they start would be even better
Again, please take this as intended, it's not a criticism of an amazing piece of software which i would happily write a piece on and have encouraged others to buy, it's just pointing out a slight flaw preventing fully auotmated trading that could be looked into in the next update

Am I going mad BA?LeTiss 4pm wrote:You're right with regards to sheet numbers
I've experienced a little frustration with this, especially when some of my sheets have differing commands.
If I place a match into sheet 4, I don't want it move up to sheets 1-3 when other games are deleted
I get the impression from BA that this isn't easy to overcome
This issue seems to have been rectified without downloading a new beta!
Have you changed the sorting of Excel sheets?
I've opened 15 sheets and set the refresh interval to 200 mms.
If I look at the "last update" column, in Guardian", the time differences between the events are very close.
But in the spreadsheet, the values don't change as fast as in Guardian. Why??
Sometimes there are 3-4 minutes of differences.....
