Rule type needs to be 'place a back bet'
and applied to ANY selection

and armed to trigger multiple times with a re-arm of 1 sec

Thanks for the reply, all working now.

The obvious problem is when my bet is matched, by the time the lay bet is put in to the system, sometimes the price has moved against me and doesn't come back.

Do you have any advice for how to speed up the lay bet, if at all possible ?

It's not possible, Betfair impose a 1 second delay on all in-play bets.
Your only option is to place it at the same time but then you run the risk of a price crashing in and matching the lay but not the back bet

One thing I have noticed during testing is that the log says bet was triggered but not matched (then killed after 0.5 s) but the bet actually was matched.

No lay bet was triggered, even though back bet was. Maybe the lay bet was not triggered because the log said the back bet was unmatched ??
