Which is exactly what Emery's track record indicated, after winning 3 Europa Leagues with Sevilla!
I would have fancied Arteta at a bigger price
Good to see you back to the forum btw
Agree with all that, but wonder whether its spin from the Allegri camp to boost his transfer budget/salary. Whoever is next up, there are serious weaknesses in that squad if your target is top 4. And it gives me no pleasure. Some of Arsenal's football over the last few decades has been sublime.Kai wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:00 pmMax Allegri by far the best choice imho, 5 league titles and 2 CL finals in recent years speaks volumes, Arsenal would be very lucky to get him.
He's spending his sabbatical year living in London and learning English so clearly wants to work there, just not sure if Arsenal FC can match his CL ambitions and whether this job has come a bit too soon for him, you would think that he'd prefer to manage Chelsea or Spurs instead, perhaps even United. The Italian Gazzetta reported that he already rejected Arsenal but they're notoriously unreliable and so far nobody else has reported the same.
Very weak market thus far, dabbled a bit earlier today to create a free bet on the favorite Allegri but hopefully it comes alive over the following days/weeks.
I'm sure all this has been a welcome distraction for OGS and United, since nobody's talking about them losing to Borat FC![]()
So, Poch sacked - shock.Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 9:04 pmThe price on Poch has been, slowly, creeping in today, and some people - or more likely someONE - is asking for a price on him with the biggest liquidity in the market (not that it's a huge amount, but still).
If that happens, I'd be very much teetering on the edge of giving up on football as a "romantic" notion and full-blown emotionally invested thing, and just view it as a monetary means to an end.
It would break my heart.
As an Arsenal fan I'm silently hopeful that it will be Poch, well, silent until now... I dont hold much hope & if it were to happen I'd understand your heart ache, undoubtedly a very good manager imo.Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 9:04 pmThe price on Poch has been, slowly, creeping in today, and some people - or more likely someONE - is asking for a price on him with the biggest liquidity in the market (not that it's a huge amount, but still).

Allegri would be the obvious, but like Kai, I'm not quite sure he'd want it right now. Assurances, or lack thereof, with funds and a defense needing a lot of work doesn't strike me as what he's waiting around for. Could be wrong of course, but wouldn't be straight forward just because he's out of a job.greenmark wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 9:15 pmSo, Poch sacked - shock.
Mourinho appointed - double shock.
Poch appointed Arsenal manager - go and lie down in a darkened room.
I think they'll go Allegri or Nuno. Allegri makes some sense but Nuno is less experienced as an EPL manager than Howe. Seems Howe is a long way away (or maybe he's distanced himself, waiting for the England job?).
It isn't about whether he's a good manager and would take you places. Given the choice I would let you clone the best five managers of all time into one perfect one over Poch. It's about me considering Poch a great human being with a strong moral grounding, before considering him a great manager. The former was imho more the foundation for him taking us up a few levels than the latter was. And it was more of the reason for me being more in awe of him than anyone else connected to Tottenham in near three decades. If he breaks his word now, within a month no less, then....
No chance if you ask me, I fully understand your fears but I think they're irrational fears. Feels like the market (and Arsenal fans) is influenced by the fact that Jose joined a rival club just the other day, but Poch is surely a different breed of man (and manager), don't think he would take the job even out of spite. I say spite considering his recent sacking was caught on camera and Amazon/Spurs plan on publishing it which I personally feel is an absolute disgrace. I instead see Poch going to United in the summer or to a top foreign club.Kafkaesque wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 10:11 pmIf he breaks his word now, within a month no less, then....
I hope you're right (and you probably are). It hadn't even struck me as the most remote of possibilities until I saw the market price moving towards a single digit.Kai wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 11:01 pmNo chance if you ask me, I fully understand your fears but I think they're irrational fears. Saw that bit. Levy truly has sold his soul. Tempting as it may be, I will not be watching. I've decided on not touching a thing that c*** of a company and their likewise CEO has their clammy hands on, and as interesting as this docu should be, not changing my mind over that.
They really should. Not just for Allegri if they can't get him, but something else might open up, instead of something half-hearthed now. A lot we don't know though. How much do they trust Ljungberg? Are there candidates known to be available come the summer, but going nowhere mid-season? Also, it could be a huge risk. It's one thing to sack a manager with a team in a generally okay state - bar current form - that's just not clicking especially offensively, where the current manager can't get them firing. When the issue looming large is a leaky, mildly put, defense then things can go south, very south, in a real hurry, if Ljungberg's not up to it.Kai wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2019 11:01 pmIf Allegri is not ready I think he is worth waiting for until summer, not everyone wants to come into this mess mid-season, it's like continuing someone else's save game on Football ManagerMaybe it's a better idea to give Allegri (or someone else) a clean fresh start and just get an interim manager like Freddie/Arteta until then.
