You think asking for references for remarks is pub ranting? I only want to expand my understanding, which on this forum is usually easy when requested.

Dont think he was referring to you. Also, are you not content with the simple stating that they are "facts"?

I may not bother voting myself, all options are unpalatable. Worst set of party leaders ever!

Emmsson your sentiment seems fairly widespread but i would encourage you to bite your tongue and go for the least worst options or cast your vote in a manor which will help us either move on or stop what could be a disaster.

No matter how bad the choices are they are never equally bad.

Just a couple of references for now as I'm v.busy today.

How Britain voted at the 2017 general election
https://yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/ar ... l-election - 64% of students voted Labour

2017 Election Briefing
https://www.runnymedetrust.org/uploads/ ... iefing.pdf - "Labour remained the most popular party among ethnic minority voters in both 2017 and 2015, receiving 77% of ethnic minority votes in 2017"

as mentioned above by sa7med - my comment was NOT aimed at your input, rather more at the non inclusive nature of some of the previous posts.. ;)

DEREK: re your comment..clearly a lot wd have to be sorted out like that...but at least it would cut massively those who go to A&E for a nosebleed or a cut finger when a plaster wd do! Also all those 'fatties' whp spend far too much time thinking about themselves.

I've been to hospital before with severe back pain and the surgeon, after seeing I could almost reach my toes, told me I shouldn't have bothered coming in but just have taken a painkiller and gone to bed. But I still don't think I should have been charged. I didn't know whether it was a pulled muscle or fracture.

But when I got a cab to hospital with an unstoppable nosebleed the surgeon told me I should have called an ambulance. He also told me when I left to come straight back if it starts bleeding again. A nosebleed is no joke - you could potentially bleed to death if you can't stop it.

They don't choose to go to A&E, it's the only place there's left to go. Our local cottage hospital used to stich and fix people in 5 mins, now it's shut and because people can't see a GP or even a nurse within 3 weeks they have to travel 20 miles to the nearest medics, and the sign over the door happens to say A&E for the sake of the accounts dept. Same people, same problems, it's cuts to local services causing hospital A&Es to be overstretched.

I'm just watching a report on Sky news right now where for the first time in this election ethnic minorities won't be voting as a 'bloc' anymore.
I wasn't aware that because of family loyalties most south Asians and Muslims have always voted the way they have been told by family elders - which have always been towards labour.

Now there are many key marginals which could be tipped to the Tories because many are intending to vote on an individual basis

The frustration is understandable though, last time I was in A&E I had massive scary chest pains and the women in front of me had been bitten by a kitten, no joke. I'm sure they could teach a bit of basic first aid in schools, maybe they could find a spare afteroon somewhere in the 12yrs they have them! Ditto household bills and a bit of basic risk management, everything from poor food choices to problem gamblers would be better if kids understood risk/reward.

In general, I'm sure this thread is a microcosm of arguments going on across the country. This was one of the reasons I really didn't want an election at Christmas! Nothing like politics to cock up the Christmas spirit.

I think the level of debate and engagement in the media is rubbish. I've stopped watching. Very little objectivity and fact led discussion. But that seems to be the world we live in and a very human thing. Full of emotional and judgemental and not really detail factual discussion.

I think the thing to do with broader issues like overuse of public services is to use a bit of behavioural nudging to get people to do the right thing.
