1000 bets an hour! - its all your fault Peter
1000 an hour is Betfair's transaction limit. I guess most people place bets well below this.
I think he is wrong to say exchanges (Betfair) are short on levy by £25m. That's about half EBITDA last year, just a bit out!
If racing is too heavy handed with the levy it could kill the industry. If racing is treated different from other sports then people will stop betting on it IMHO.

All very one sided - kind of makes you worried that these people are making the rules given their lack of understanding.

this is a complete waste of time - they are only just plugging their constiteuncy and saying how important the industry is ,"dont come to me with a problem unless you have the solution"
Is Jeremy Hunt actually present and has he said anything about the exchanges? If not then like oddstrader says its a waste of time. I'm not watching as I've just eaten and I'd kind of like to keep my food down which is always a problem after being exposed to politicians
Definitely.
There's a lack of balance or intellectual rigour in the debate.
IMHO, it's simple. Horse racing is like any industry - it needs to stand on its own two feet. What's being advocated is a form of protectionism, and it says something about British politics that the Tories aren't up in arms about this socialist claptrap.
