Hi all,

Been looking into taking my pre-race trading on the road whilst travelling around Europe in my motorhome. The biggest issue I'm finding in my research is the ability to stream pictures due to the large data requirement during a 3 hour trading session.......I will not have access to that amount of data on the road!!!

Are there any of you out there that successfully trading the pre-race markets using just the ladders?

It's perfectly possible to trade without pictures. But you may find it's just not as effective as having some pictures.

If you install a VPN on your computer you can log into most sites, place a bet, get the video stream activated then turn off the VPN again. That's what a lot of people do.

You could also use a VPS, but video isn't perfect using this method as RDP wasn't built to stream video.

Great news! I was getting a bit worried that I was being wishful!! I can deal with a reduction in efficiency, so long as I can still earn on the road!!

Totally depends on what you're doing I guess. If you trade 15min-10min out then no problem, but if you like to take things right up to the wire then it's going to be ify. If in doubt then maybe just try it at home before you leave for a few days and get used to it? Afterall you're best placed to judge any negative effect on you and your style. What is it that you actually use the video feed for, news/info, watching them parading, seeing them going down and about to start?

Could you listen to the radio via VPN instead of having the pictures if data is an issue?

It might also be worth looking at what's going to happen with your mobile provider when we leave the EU too. We'll drop out of the agreement to make mobile charging a level playing field across the EU so there's the potential for roaming charges to change. Not necessarily impossed by the UK provider, but possibly due to additional forwarding costs from countries that can then charge whatever they want to do it. btw did you know you can't have your old reg plates with the EU logo on either. Tricky times ahead for travelling with the goalposts on the move.

Trading without pictures is something many people started off doing and requires a different style and mindset. It's fine not knowing why a horse has suddenly drifted as long as you're aware that you're not aware and act accordingly.

It's even possible to trade in running without any pictures, so no reason why prerace would be any different. Like Shaun said, it depends on what your approach is, but you shouldn't be looking for a generalized reply or what other people do, with a bit of common sense only you can answer the question whether you actually need pictures or no.

If your edge doesn't come from the pictures then you obviously don't need them, and if it does play a role then you would have to adapt and look at the ladder more closely, which is not necessarily a bad thing :)
