Bet Angel automation error greening out - any help/advice please?

Hi there,

I run a few automation strategies and the one I was running on Saturday went a bit wrong. A £11 back bet (on Mill Green) which was matched 4 minutes before the race started was meant to green out in the last 30 seconds. Well... it did green out, but it somehow greened out twice by placing 2 simulataneous lay bets instead of just the one. And after that had happened, my automation tried to green it again but failed due exposure limits and maximum liablity issues.

Anyway, so it didn't green out, and the horse I had backed had sudddenly became a lay bet and the horse went on to win, costing me £143, which is quite a big loss for me!

It also went on to do a few other weird things, which you can see from my Matched Bets.

I'm hoping someone can tell me why this happened, so I can avoid this happening again. The automation file is pretty simple, so I don't think it's a rule issue. I think it's more a case of it putting two simultaneous closing lay bets in at the same time, when it should just have placed one. I'm worried about this happening again, and if it's a software issue, can I trust this not to happen again?

How many greening transactions does your bot allow, and how long do you leave between each attempt?

It could be that you're firing off multiple greening transactions without waiting for the previous one to be, receieved, matched and the info returned to BA. If you don't leave enough time then your first one will be matched when there'a already a 2nd one one the way...so you get two matched becuase the 2nd one can't cancel the first one.

From 40 to 5 seconds before the race, it tries to green at reverse market price, and it allows that rule to trigger up to 22 times, with a 9 seconds in between each attempt.

Then, from 0 seconds to 40 seconds after race time, it greens out at current market price, 9 times with 4 seconds in between each attempt.

You can see from my Matched bets and log file that it's placed loads of bets on Gunnery as well, and it's placed about 10 closing bets in less than 1 second.

Which is why I think it's a Bet Angel/API error (rather than a rule error). I've run this rule lots of times before (constantly for about a week anyway) and nothing like this has ever happened before.

I had an idea of what it might be and tried to re-create it but it worked fine. I used a single green up armed as you stated above.

How many greening and/or close trade rules do you have in your file? (maybe ones you've forgot about out of view in the rules editor until you scroll down).
If there is more than one can you post some screenshots of the settings used?

Is there any significance to the fact that the log is reporting on more than 50 things it had done or was attempting to do in the single second 15:34:20 and BA was presumably doing even more things that weren't logged at the same time?

I think it suggests something definitely went wrong with the reporting from the API, it's just a case of trying to identify what may have caused that

Thanks for the images, did you quickly check there were no unwanted/forgotten greening rules still lingering at the bottom of the list anywhere?

There are 2 keys points from the log to focus on, the first is the liability amount being exceeded (this is a BA setting), the 2nd is your exposure/balance being exceeded, both these are from the BF side.

I did wonder if because one of the two runners you were greening had a liability that exceeded your BA settings if it was somehow causing the reporting to be wrong from BF but yesterday I tried recreating this lowering my liability to £5 and placing two bets and letting the automation green it up.
As you can see from the attached log it worked fine and as expected (ie, it greened the runner below the liability and ignored the one above and reported correctly in the log).

The only thing I wasn't able to test (without moving balances all over is if the same is true when you BF balance/exposure limit is reached)

I did check and there were no other green rules anywhere.

I suspect this is a bug from having a low balance when the time comes to green out (though I don't really understand why a low balance would be a problem), and I will also increase my max liability.

I will tread more carefully from now on but will obviously let you know if something like this ever happens again.

I do really appreciate you looking into this for me by the way. I hoped it might be something you had encountered before, but not to worry anyway.
