Is it important to look at the horses and jockeys and trainers in a race and know something about their current form before you
pick a race to trade? Should we be only trading horses if we think they've got a chance to win?

Every horse has a chance to win but it's odds will reflect the likely probability.
Many of us will simply trade the numbers as sometimes a little knowledge can hinder you rather than help. If you can accurately read form it's obviously going to be a bonus, but if you can't you'll get bogged down and probably hold onto trades far too long thinking it'll eventually go your way.
