I'm looking at composing a few of these to allow myself to have a life away from my computer but I was surprised that with just one ruleset running my computer started to slowdown and eventually ground to a near stop. I think I have a reasonably powerful set-up … i7 CPU running at 2.40 GHz, 16 GB RAM but would welcome comment compared to what others use.

I was running a ruleset to collect data on the Win and Place markets and play with some scalping (Win market only) to learn more about AUS dogs. All rules ran from 3 mins before the scheduled start until 5 mins after (this was just to cover for delayed starts and make sure I got all the data). The Refresh period was restricted to 200 seconds before the scheduled start until 300 seconds after. The actual rules were …

Store Market Volume every minute
Store all Selections' Volumes every minute
Store all Selections' Back Prices every second
Store all Selections' Lay Prices every second
Store all Selections' Predicted SP's every minute

The rulesets would start OK but gradually run slower and slower until it became impossible to do anything with my computer and Task Manager was advising that BA was "Not Responding"! I tried closing and re-opening BA which just repeated the gradual slowing down over time (it started to be noticeable after about 30 mins and became unusable after about 60 mins.). I then switched to restarting the computer but only repeated the previous experience. I remembered something about a new version of BA because the earlier version was found to be consuming resources and I thought I had installed the latest version but just to make sure I uninstalled and reinstalled but again the problem just repeated. I then stripped out the price collection rules leaving just the scalping rules and it's performing as expected.

I guess my question is was I asking too much of BA to harvest 8 x 2 prices x 2 markets x 2 races (overlapping refresh periods) = 64 prices per second. I regularly use SV's as a means to harvest in-play football match prices and not had a problem on a Saturday afternoon so wasn't expecting a problem here. I was expecting BA to be able to handle more than 2 rulesets at the same time unless I have misunderstood and wrongly assumed that many here run many rulesets at the same time.

Just want to establish the usability parameters of BA so would welcome contributions.

Writing a lot to the log will cause you to grind to a halt...
