Coronavirus - A pale horse,4 men and ....beer
it must only be govt that hasn't been watchful on events around the globe. singapore has to an extent been the model here to emulate, yet has been all but ignored in the way that it curbed the initial spread... oh well - WE know best!!superfrank wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 5:12 pmWe allowed flights from Italy to continue right up to the point the Italians quarantined the whole country and airlines themselves decided to stop flying.
Hardly a "containment" phase was it?
It's a virus. You can't avoid it. You need a substantial proportion of a community to catch it and hopefully survive. Then immunity in the community kills the little sod....at least until the next time people's noses start running.superfrank wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 5:12 pmWe allowed flights from Italy to continue right up to the point the Italians quarantined the whole country and airlines themselves decided to stop flying.

But the scientists/govt are worried because they don't know whether this will blow itself out. China suggests it will, but there is no science to predict what will happen.

With that logic the govt should be asking for volunteers to be infected rather than isolating those infected and tracing those who have come into contact with them.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-51718614Travellers from countries with severe coronavirus outbreaks who arrive in some parts of China will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine, state media say.
Travellers from the virus hotspots of South Korea, Japan, Iran and Italy arriving in the capital will have to be isolated, a Beijing official has said.
Shanghai and Guangdong announced similar restrictions earlier.
Authorities are worried the virus might be imported back into the country.
I should have said statement by Matt Hancock not UK press conference, my mistake typing in a rush.
It came from The Times reporter Charlotte Edwards.
Not sure I have seen this heat map/stats link posted yet on the thread, it is very good:

I absolutely believe the hygiene advice is correct. I do it every day to protect others (not myself). Others that I encounter don't seem to have got the message that hygiene slows the flow of infection and gives the NHS the best chance of saving vulnerable people. At least 3 of which are in my social circle.
This map has a "time travel" feature so you can play back the whole thing : https://www.mapbox.cn/coronavirusmap/
He is speaking now in the Houses of Parliament, covered by the news channels.PDC wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2020 5:52 pmI should have said statement by Matt Hancock not UK press conference, my mistake typing in a rush.

I thought he was implying no one saw it coming. Go back a few months and no one was talking about a global pandemic hitting in 2020 bar a few preppers perhaps.
