Sounds like they expect it to continue as long as the govt. allow it - with or without spectators

I struggle to see how Aintree will be allowed to go ahead. It will be a struggle to justify the number of ambulance and medical staff that are still required even without crowds when they are likely to be needed elsewhere.

Hopefully things aren't as bad and it can go ahead though.

There seems to have been a change in tone from the Government late Friday.

Think about all the tax revenue the govt. will lose just because 1 ambulance can't turn up though (btw I'm not advocating it just playing devils advocate)

Problem is though they have loads more than 1 ambulance and medical staff for the Grand National just for the jockeys, then even behind close doors they will still require medical cover for those in attendance.

Have a watch of the replay from last year and look how many follow the field / are positioned around the track:

I'm not enjoying these markets today, so far - mirror image of yesterday. Bring back the Cheltenham crowds!

Very good discussion on Sky Sports Racing about the viability of racing continuing behind closed doors from the perspective of Arena Leisure . It doesn't sound at all positive unless financial support is given.

Arena are planning on the basis that it would need to be until into June.

Worth watching.

This would also eliminate the "courtsiders" and maybe, affect the In-Play market too.

It would eliminate all betting unless measures aren't taken. The Arena Chief is saying that a lot of their courses would have to stop racing rather than race behind closed doors if they are to survive unless financial support comes. It won't be an immediate issue but he said as time goes on the courses move to getting their money not from media and levy but from people attending. One example he said was some courses can get 75% of their profit from just one race day such as a Ladies Day. If those people aren't there that is a huge hole in their finances.

He also said almost all of the non racing income from holding conferences etc on non racing days has vanished and their hotels are empty and there is no sign of that changing in the medium term.

He also says they are planning on the basis that racing is moved to behind closed doors within the next 48 hours.

The points were also raised about how racing is perceived if it were to continue, their are good and bad points/issues of it continuing.

It was a very interesting discussion and one worth watching on catch up as it raised a lot of points that people may not have thought about, myself included.

Markets seem good today. Maybe more people at home and betting than a normal Sunday?

Those that laid the fav in the 1555 got caught out when the jockey lost his irons only to get them back and go on and win:

The 7 minute clip in the below linked tweet is well worth watching for horse traders from today's Sky Sports Racing Racing Debate:

@AtTheRaces
Possible timescales for racing behind closed doors, the dangers that racecourses face and the need for racing’s key stakeholders to work together - @arenaracingco chief executive Martin Cruddace joined #RacingDebate to discuss the impact of coronavirus on horse racing.

There was a lot of other excellent debate on the subject in the program so worth watching the whole program if it is available.
