They're are talking about helicopter money (QE) in the US (sending govt. cheques to everyone).

Post financial crisis QE was used to buy debt to force money into other assets (stocks/property) and get new money trickling down into the economy that way (great if you own assets but not so good if you're at the bottom of the food chain!).

There's an argument that giving money directly to people gets the money into the economy much quicker. Indeed, the quickest way is to give it to the poor as they tend to spend all their money rather than hoard it as richer people tend to do.

Corona Virus was created by women.

Think about it.

- Football is cancelled.
- No pubs.
- Isolated for 14 days, so all odd jobs get completed.
- Flu like symptoms (they know how badly it affects us).
- To rub salt in the wounds, they name it after a lager.

The job losses and struggles many many families are going to experience hasn't dawned upon so many imo.

The number of deaths caused by the virus directly will be hugely surpassed I think by the number of deaths caused by the actions taken to fight it.
I'm not sure how you work that out. Job loss doesn't equal death
I hope you are right but research suggests there is a strong link.

People are starting to think/realise about the economic impact of all this but we are only at the start of it unfortunately. It will take years and decades for it all to filter through.

An area that hasn't got much press yet is car finance, that is going to be a major issue in the weeks and months ahead as people begin to understand the impacts of the contracts they signed in better times. Very tough times a head for many.

I am by no means claiming I know what it all means for the future, my views are constantly changing on the impacts and will continue to change as the days and weeks unfold.

I hope everyone on the forum isn't badly effected by in terms of health and finance.

The £330bn will mainly be in loans, so a lot will return to the coffers at some point.
Perhaps I miss-heard but I thought the loans were going to be government backed, not from the government themselves.

If you haven't already watched it this address to the Irish nation last night is excellent imo and worth watching (despite what I say below), it is about 12 minutes:

https://twitter.com/i/broadcasts/1OdKrqbNaWQxX

One point he raises towards the end really struck home with me, I have been finding myself constantly watching the news, checking twitter etc. and it has actually started to affect my sleep as I have been struggling to wind down of a night. But as he says, we need to look after both our physical health but also our mental health. So I have shut twitter down today and won't be constantly looking on here to see the latest posts, rather I will set a bit of time aside to catch up on things during a tea break. The rest of the time I won't be looking in.

Stay healthy everyone, both physically and mentally!

I don't use twitter myself, but I think constantly checking anything is a pretty bad idea in terms of productivity...(as well probably for health)...regardless of corona virus being around or not...

There's a popular book around called The Shallows...worth a read for people using the internet a lot... its about what the internet does to your mind... (for example hyperlinks in text are a detractor from your minds ability to recall what you were reading)... its called the shallows because the internet breeds people with a wide breadth of shallow knowledge (or something along those lines)...

It's unfortunate the world seems to want to force interruption/multitasking on everyone... (sorry, I realise I digressed and now I don't want to delete what I wrote).. guess just wanted to say that I don't know if would be the coronavirus causing the stress rather than your habits...

Yep time away from the news has got to be a good thing, I even went for a run in the park with my daughter this morning which was a nice change, not the running though as that f*cked me :)

The news is non stop and very little changes hour to hour, I'm trying to limit my news consumption back to what it was pre corona
