From the Guardian's CV timeline:
A temporary mortuary is to be opened at Birmingham Airport in preparation for a predicted rise in the number of fatalities from coronavirus in the region. Work has begun on the site, which will initially be able to hold 1,500 bodies, although it will be expanded to hold more

In these depressing times I have a sudden urge to listen to Phil Collins

As an Australian who lives on a standard 750sqm suburban block, it seems so unusual seeing everyone clapping outside terrace housing living so close to one another!!

To join the "new hospitals" in London and Birmingham and Manchester, Wales is now having one at the Millennium Stadium.
Getting all these set up and running is going to be really difficult, it must be so complicated on so many levels, just find enough equipment is going to be extremely tough let alone people to staff them. It isn't like we have a load of spare nurses and doctors. Which means one thing to me, the number of staff per patient is going to be going down significantly which means care levels are likewise going down.
It looks like things are going to become very horrible in the UK very quickly. The next 2 - 3 weeks are not going to be nice.

Is that the average/standard size of a house and garden in Australia?Aarondewit wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:04 amAs an Australian who lives on a standard 750sqm suburban block, it seems so unusual seeing everyone clapping outside terrace housing living so close to one another!!
I thought Boris was doing pretty well handling all the pressure of this and answering all the questions, but today openly bumbling about how he visited a hospital of infected patients and then shook everyones hand (after all that has been said about social distancing) has to be the stupidest thing I've saw this year
Surely the leader of our country can't be this stupid and must have wanted to contract it on purpose to play down the symptoms and publicise his recovery to give people hope and avoid more panic

Yes. I think in some of the larger cities as land prices have become crazy some blocks are less than 500sqm. I do sometimes wonder what's the point of a garden, especially for those who aren't big gardeners. Bit like our house at 140sqm is considered small - and we always hear how you can't bring up a family in such a small house - but I am not convinced you need much more room. Have been searching UK housing and I didn't realise houses were that small.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:12 amIs that the average/standard size of a house and garden in Australia?Aarondewit wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:04 amAs an Australian who lives on a standard 750sqm suburban block, it seems so unusual seeing everyone clapping outside terrace housing living so close to one another!!

This video was from a while back, feels like weeks, but was about 2 weeks ago if that when the measures being taken look very poo0/insufficentr in hindsight, it was prior to the change in data which is when measures were changed, all we had to do back then was wash our handsalexmr2 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:26 amI thought Boris was doing pretty well handling all the pressure of this and answering all the questions, but today openly bumbling about how he visited a hospital of infected patients and then shook everyones hand (after all that has been said about social distancing) has to be the stupidest thing I've saw this year

Many people in the UK, not just young people, live in bedsits. That's one (sometimes small) room with a kitchen sink in it. I live on my own but if I was lucky enough to have 750 square metres I'd find something to do with every single one.Aarondewit wrote: ↑Sat Mar 28, 2020 2:30 amYes.
