I see that Betfair are doing the Grand National in virtual format it would be handy if it could be automated on here but I suppose there’s never be any need for it.

I think I'll punch the first person who asks me if I'm going to have a bet on it or watch it.

They have run it last two years on TV shortly before the real race, the first year was remarkable close to the eventual real result.

Its actually quite a sophsticated and very clever model behind it - graphics make it look almost real to, if you didn't know you'd need to look closely when watching.

I think this could be a really interesting angle for traders & Betfair at the moment, be great if we could get a pre market on it, not sure if there will be or not but I'd imagine with the amount of data available from previous years that Betfair & traders have, it wouldn't be far from the real thing depending on liquidity.

There's an email doing the rounds (M.Wilding) that's advertising a database with full form that can be set up to run/simulate old race form in a virtual races against each other, every 10 minutes. Essentially, it's a way of improving/testing criteria when/if racing comes back again in a few months time.

Quite sure it would handle a Grand National simulation or two.

I see that the Grand National on Saturday has been pre-recorded, producers Carm Productions have vowed to ensure the result will not leak out to the betting market. Anyone in the Know feel free to post :D

i presume this info came out on the 1st of April -lol. can't figure why a virtual event would need to be pre recorded, tho i guess it acts as a backup/disaster recovery mechanism. but as you say, open to corruption. count me in!! :D

Reminds of the old Celebrity Big Brother eviction markets.

Those behind the scenes were privy to the data and there were significant market moves a day before the televised event...allegedly...

On the Virtual GN, bookies are restricting a punter to £10 a bet, so unless you have a large social media following...

i guess it's all for a good cause, so would be wrong to view it as a moneymaking scheme ;)

That's true. If I find a winner. I'll donate any profit to a good cause.

FWIW here's a virtual prediction for the virtual grand national.

Anyone know what overround they'll be betting to? I've heard the bookies have agreed to donate profits to the NHS so that might justify bumping it up a little bit.

Am I right in saying only the profits go to the NHS?

So basically if Tiger Roll wins the NHS gets nowt
