Because just doubling down for argument's sake is not exactly my idea of interesting, it's probably the opposite, maybe if I was stuck defending a lost cause I too would find it a bit interesting. Like Peter just touched on in another thread, people will too often defend their opinion to the death if need be and they would rather fall on their own proverbial sword than admit wrong or change their point of view. That's also coincidentally probably the very definition of politics in general That's one of the many societal issues that plague us in general. Too many people spend money they haven't earned, to buy things they don't want, to impress people they don't like. Whilst we're on this subject, if you or anyone else for that matter suffer from depression, anxiety issues or panic attacks etc (not that many would admit it) then I suggest exploring ASMR to help ease the pain.
The worrying thing about this is, the people who think this is social control, the scary part is, we need these people to deliver vital equipment... Lambs to the slaughter trying to save the sheep.

Herd immunity is seen as callous; but you can't lock a country down til mid2021.
I thought NHS Nightingale was gonna be overwhelmed by now; but is there anyone in there yet? & if not why not, I thought London was a hotbed.
Maybe this is gonna be over quicker than people think.

Fair enough - so something more concrete.
We should be focusing on mass mask production (provided that the science is clear enough and from my understanding it is clear and there is emerging evidence that the droplets needed to infect are quite large and even masks below the top medical grade are sufficient - obviously rapid further work is needed on that because if that is the case then I understand we could even manufacture masks at home). Start with distribution to the most vulnerable and then to society as a whole. I'd rather see that kind of social effort focussed on prevention with us all getting back to normal asap. Use powers to nationalise the necessary facilities and move rapidly to mass production.
In parallel efforts on vaccines etc.
But we must have a focus of getting out of the shutdown because I don't think that is maximising life.

Isolate until we have enough masks, then use them to buy time until a working vaccine gets made. Big efforts should be made to increase mask production but also to educate the population on how to make homemade masks as well in a pinch, which materials best to use etc.
Speaking of which, there are plenty of DIY video tutorials on how to create masks but I would love to see this sort of education come from official channels too, instead of actively telling people not to use masks.

One may have meant.... "Britons that have survived SARS/CV19, and have built an immunity, can procreate and pass it on to the next generation. Also learnt lessons on best practise if a similar event occurs in the future."

In fairness to the government, no country has failed to be overwhelmed by the crisis and there was bound to be logistical problems in getting the volume of supplies to where they are needed. I just wish they wouldn't lie about it or give the usual "it's in the post" excuse.
