it might be back but I am seeing some funny market behaviour. They seem to have throttled the price cache so the market appears to be in slow motion.

Betdaq seems a sandwich short at the moment as well.

Unless you talk with your feet nothing will change.

If you moved to Betdaq the liquidity would improve with it

Not gonna happen.

What is required is an organisation for exchange players that had some agreement and clout to lobby for our interests.

Even better would for someone to set up a new exchange working with the developers that do the tech for futures exchanges, and make it truely open, regulated and professional.

Imagine a futures exchange taking a 20% cut from the profits of successful traders!!

Euler -

Have Bet Angel ever considered setting up an exchange?

Was gonna suggest the same thing. We should set up our own exchange! I'll chip in a few quid ;)

I think the chances of a new exchange challenging BF is very slim. It needs liquidity to succeed and big traders will fish where the fish are

The only hope for a new, vibrant exchange will come from a fixed odds bookmaker who decides to branch out

Unfortunately i have to agree with you, Betfair has been useless today, what a dusgrace. Lets hope one of the big bookmakers reads these posts and branches out. Betfair need some real competition and then maybe they might sort things out?

Hi Superfrank,

You are correct in what you say if everyone just keeps paying Befair 20% and Data charges and 5% commission.

No way you would put up with that from any other business.

I will stick with Betdaq and hope that sense prevails.

Once traders see their income fall due to bad service they might do the same.

Good luck in what you do.

IMHO, the way you undermine Betfair's position is by doing what Bill Gates did with Internet Explorer. You give the product away for free - zero commission and zero PC - and make your money from ad revenue.

Otherwise, the risk is that you end up like Betdaq and the other companies who have tried to take on Betfair, ie nowhere.

Once you have a loyal following and loads of liquidity, you can think about introducing a modest commission! ;)

All sounds good

What I object to most is the 20% income tax that is levied by to Befair.

It used to take an Act of Parliament to introduce a Tax in this country.

That's another thing that needs to be addressed,
If BF is not working properly then they should turn if off, knowone should be able to place bets at all if others can not.

I've asked Betfair if they could refund me for the loss I had incurred earlier in the day, due to the outage (even though I knew I was whistling in the wind!).

I was referred to section 12 of the T&C's - 'Matters beyond our reasonable control'. I've just sent a follow-up email (which I've CCed to Niall Wass):

Betfair was taken offline prior to today’s first UK horse race. It was later brought back online, and I assumed that the technical problems that had caused it to be unavailable earlier must have been resolved. However, this was not the case, as Betfair later went down again. The second outage cost me money, as I was unable to close a trade I had opened.

As Betfair could have kept the site offline until all the technical issues had been resolved, surely the second outage was not beyond Betfair’s ‘reasonable control’. I therefore ask that you please review this decision.

I have CCed this email to Niall Wass as it relates to a matter about which there is a great deal of dissatisfaction amongst Betfair users, judging by comments in the Bet Angel forum.
