Hi

I'm thinking of getting a smartphone (either running Windows Mobile or the Mac OS).

Is it possible to run Bet Angel on smartphones?

Despite much Googling, I haven't been able to find a non-technical answer to the question: 'Do programs which run on XP also run on smartphones?'.

Thanks

Jeff

on the iphone you can download an app called RDC (remote desktop connection) and if you subscribe to betangels server edition you can log in via your iphone and have betangel running live through a vps on your handset .

The answer is no - you can't run Bet Angel on a Smartphone.

Bet Angel will only run on Microsoft Windows.

But you can run Bet Angel on a VPS (sold on this site) and access this via your smartphone as oddstrader describes.

And it works really well. I've seen it going on an iPhone and a Blackberry.

Thanks guys

Is there any way I could connect remotely to my home computer via my mobile, and access Bet Angel that way?

I don't know about any other software, but I have used teamviewer(free for non-commercial use)with my iphone.
works ok in emergency for general use.Suspect there is a little too much delay time for full on trading.

Looking at getting a new phone and was thinking of getting an Iphone - one thing I can't find on the Apple website is whether you can use the phone as a radio?

When out running I like to have my ipod but on long runs can get bored of listening to just music so wouldn't mind being able to get some radio stations like Radio 1, Radio 4 etc.

Can any of you Iphone owners let me know if this is possible on the Iphone?

Would people recommend anything other than an IPhone? Can't say I am much of an expert on smartphones.....

TIA.

Would highly reccomend an Htc Desire, if poss get the HD version, most carriers have it now, it wins the iphone v htc desire comparison hands down, I am a proud owner of the desire and I really cant fault it, its amazing what phones can do.

I have mine on the 'one plan' from 3 network, handset comes free, and you basically get unlimited everything for £35 per months, and dont be fooled by unlimited internet deals from any other carrier, in the small print its usually between 500mb to 1gb per month that you get, but with 3 its truly all you can eat innternet and beleive me when i say this, iphones and other smart phones can easily go through 1 GB in a couple of days.

My wife has an iphone 4 and wants the same as me now.

Rather than me rabbit on about it, just do a google search for HTC desire v iphone, plenty of info, reviews and youtube vidoes out there and most seem to reccomend the desire

It runs on andriod operationg system which is Google operating system for smartphones/tablets, its lightening quick and very stable and has the back up of google, there are less apps for the andriod operating system at the moment in comparision to iphone, but it wont be long before i phone is in the shadows.

....Sorry if I have offended any I phone users!

just my opinion :P

Cheers for the reply - that was one of the other phones I was considering. Do you know if it can be used as a radio? I also read it was pretty big and bulky?

I am going to go for 3 on the One Plan as quite a few people I know are with 3 so the 3 to 3 mins will be handy and you get heaps of other mins and texts and the internet looks good with them.

What are these phones like for using with Betfair as a back up? I currently use a 3G dongle with my laptop as a back up while trading incase of a power cut so as to close out any positions but rather than pay for the dongle I may as well spend that money on a better phone if it can do the job.

Cheers for the info so far.

wasnt too sure about radio as its not something ive used before on a phone, but had a quick look on android market place there and could see quite a few free fm radio apps, so yes it looks like it would function no problem as a radio.

As for size and weight etc:

Htc desire HD (68mm x123mm x 11.8mm) weight 164
HTC desire (one I have)119 x 60 x 11.9 mm weight 135g

Iphone 4gs 115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm weight 137g

The older htc desire (without hd) is practically identical, but to be honest you would not even notice the difference with the HD model, as you will no doubt want to buy a nice protective silicone cover, to stop it being scratched which will bulk either of the phones up in any case, ps remember to insure whichever you buy, I get mine through my bank account deal with lots of other extras.

As for using it as a backup, I would not reccomend that, either with the iphone or desire, the betfair app is great for being on the move and placing the odd bet and checking your account etc, but for one click betting and getting out of postions the app is not that great, especially as speed would be of the essence in this case!

I've got an HTC Desire and it's a great phone.
Comes with an FM radio as standard.
Trading wise I use mine to display Slingplayer (currently overseas using my laptop and mobile for pictures) and when out and about to connect to my VPS.

Not knocking iphones, great bit of kit, but I personally like the open nature of Android compared to ihpone.

Sorry, missed the question about 3g/backup...

You can use the Desire as a WiFi hotspot so you can hook up any of your wireless enabled devices to the internet via the phone's 3G connection. Works very well.

In terms of plans be careful of "unlimited" internet plans subject to a "fair usage policy". These are usually still 1GB data xfer plans. For example I am on Vodafone and my unlimited internet allows me 1GB per month (this is hidden away on their website). Orange I believe is 750MB for "unlimited"

Cheers for the replies guys really helpful.

I am moving towards the HTC desire now rather than an iphone.

I really only want it as a back up to place a closing bet nothing more complicated than that really so I would have thought the BF ap would be fairly quick for this surely - log in, navigate to the market and place a back or a lay. Not fussed about greening and redding up exactly in such circumstances as it is just a case of minimising exposure.

Really like the idea of using it as a wifi hotspot - that I would guess would mean I could have it on my desk and if the power went I could just use my laptop connected to the phones wifi hot spot to close out as well as a different option.

Will have to go to a shop to see if it is too big or not. Have found online an arm pouch that you can put the phone in for while running and it stays on your arm which will be handy - could be on the phone and running then listen to some music :)

Thanks.

Can I access my home PC remotely with a Blackberry?

I've had a look at the iphones and the Androids, and they don't seem to have keypads. How do you enter text with them?
