It's not looking great. Minneapolis just voted to disband their police and will replace them with a new type of public safety system.

pink floyds guitarist david gilmour son done something similar during the student fee demos years ago, and he subsequently served a year or so in prison.superfrank wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 11:24 amSomeone also climbed the Cenotaph in Whitehall and attempted to burn the Union Flag decorating it.

i would go along with that, he done more than upset the irish, a right bastard.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 11:51 amWhat next, are we going to take down the statue of Oliver Cromwell because he upset the Irish ?
With all the protests against police brutality its interesting to see what the Austrian government are planning on doing with Hitlers birthplaceDerek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 2:59 pmI think the leaders of the British Empire did more than upset a few million people. At the end of the day, history is history and has a place in modern society. Nobody (except neo-nazis) commemorates Adolf Hitler but at the same time nobody attempts to destroy every image or relic of him.
Nobody commemorates Hitler but it's acceptable to commemorate a slave trader with a statue in the middle of one of the UK's largest multicutural cities. People in Bristol have been campaigning for years to have the statue rmoved. It's quite fitting it was dumped in the harbour considering over 20,000 died on his slave ships and were simply dumped at sea. Times change we don't need to live in the past and are quite capable of making our own history.
Such action should be decided by democratic means. It's not for the mob to decide who or what we commemorate.spreadbetting wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 4:00 pmPeople in Bristol have been campaigning for years to have the statue rmoved. If they've been campaigning for years why didn't they dump it in the river years ago? What could possibly have happened recently that has any relevance to a 17th century MP and slave trader?spreadbetting wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 4:00 pmNobody commemorates Hitler but it's acceptable to commemorate a slave trader with a statue in the middle of one of the UK's largest multicutural cities. It's irrelevant he died over 3 centuries ago, it was pulled down because of what it represented. If you can't see how black people might be offended at a statue of a slave trader in the middle of the city I think it's more likely you and Frank are living in the past rather than these 'anarchists' as you seem to tag them.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 08, 2020 4:38 pmIf they've been campaigning for years why didn't they dump it in the river years ago? I despised Margaret Thatcher but didn't see the point of celebrating the death of an elderly woman with dementia who probably wasn't even aware of the damage she's done. It's one thing downing and smashing up Saddam Husain's statue but to do it for someone who's died over three centuries ago would suggest it's the anarchists that are really living in the past.
